AQUARIUM DE BIARRITZ
An immersive and unforgettable experience, a visit to the seabed to discover the species that inhabit the Atlantic coast.
Facing the Rocher de la Vierge, the Aquarium, an Art Deco building dating from the 1930s, invites you to discover some sixty tanks. It was one of the 1st oceanographic institutes in France, since the visionary Marquis Léopold de Folin came up with the idea at the end of the 19th century. Opened to the public in 1933, it has undergone several waves of renovation, including a grandiose extension from 3,500 m² to 7,000 m² in 2011, and now offers an original tour of the seabed. Dive into a fascinating journey through the world's oceans at the Biarritz Aquarium! And every step of the way invites you to discover the richness and diversity of marine life.
Be mesmerized by the new area dedicated to jellyfish, contemplate an 11-meter coral reef, home to brilliantly colored fish. Cross the turtle grotto to meet Alice, the loggerhead turtle, before stopping in front of the seal tank where Charlie and Izar, the Aquarium's real mascots, await you for their meals every day at 10.30am and 5pm.
The highlight of the visit? The giant 1.5 million-liter aquarium, a veritable underwater kingdom featuring eight species of shark, including a scalloped hammerhead, the only one of its kind in Europe. Add to this a number of unique treasures, including XXL pointillist frescoes, a sound gallery of cetaceans and a singular cabinet of curiosities.
An immersive, unforgettable experience in the heart of Biarritz, to share with family and friends.
