CAVE OF THE LOVE CHAMBER
Grotte de la Chambre d'Amour, where Saubade and Laorens hid in the century and were drowned when the ocean swallowed them up
A drama of the heart... that's what gave its name to the beautiful and sad legend of the Chambre d'Amour. That of the two lovers Saubade and Laorens, of different social status, who, in the 17th century, hid there to fall in love, and whom the ocean swallowed up in a cave on Cap-Saint-Martin (beneath the Love Tower). They were found the next day, embraced, but drowned. This sacred spot in the cliffs has become known as the Grotte de la Chambre d'Amour! A must-see, just like the Rocher de la Vierge.
