Croquets were a local specialty, and President Raymond Poincaré was a great fan! Invented in 1854, they are made from flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla and almonds. As for the rochers (roasted Piedmont hazelnuts crushed and then baked before being mixed with melted milk chocolate), legend has it that they refer to the Dames de Meuse, the huge rocks found on the road leading from Verdun to Saint-Mihiel.
