Enriched by donations, this historical museum presents a collection of objects, materials and souvenirs relating to the battle of Verdun.

In 1967, 25 years after the publication of his Mémoires, academician and veteran Maurice Genevoix inaugurated the Mémorial de Verdun. Enriched by donations and an exceptional archive, this museum presents a collection of objects, materials and memorabilia relating the Battle of Verdun. After more than 4 decades of existence, and the disappearance of all witnesses, a major campaign to redesign the site has been undertaken in order to recreate a link between the historical event and new generations. The Memorial symbolically reopened its doors to the public in 2016, 100 years after the events.

The newly scenicized site interprets the battle through 2,000 objects in an immersive, three-level tour. On the first floor, you enter the front-line combatants' perimeter. An audiovisual show lets you experience the violence of artillery combat. Trucks and cannons give you a better understanding of what was at stake on the Voie Sacrée. On the1st floor, you'll discover another environment, the back-front and behind-the-scenes of the first air battle in history. Go to the top floor, on this terrace overlooking the battlefield. A virtual reality experience awaits you, to discover the landscape of the Verdun battlefield, before, during and after the fighting.

The Verdun Memorial is a must-see when visiting Verdun, where history meets new technologies.
