Montmédy citadel, with a defensive system at the time directed against France, featuring 3 fortified gates in 1681

An exceptional site, the Citadelle de Montmédy is one of the largest fortresses in the Grand-Est region, with over 1.5 km of walls that can be visited. In 1540, under the reign of Charles V, the medieval town was razed to the ground to build a star-shaped bastioned citadel. It was later modernized by Vauban. Also within the citadel: the Musée de la Fortification, which showcases the Meuse's military architectural heritage; and the Musée Jules Bastien-Lepage, which sheds light on the work of this internationally renowned Meuse artist.

Wie so viele Monumente hier in der Gegend ein imposantes Bauwerk. Riesig, im Inneren gibt es ein bewohnten Dorf, Café und Gaststätte. Wir haben nur einen Rundgang gemacht, aber dieser war schon sehr schön.
Einen Besuch würden wir sehr empfehlen, wenn man hier in der Gegend ist.
Schon die Zufahrt zum im Parkplatz durch die 3 Tore ist klasse.
