LA TOUR DU PLÔ
An impressive quadrangular keep of the century, the witness of a feudal time in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche.
The only remnant of the old castle, this impressive 13th century quadrangular keep has just been restored but it remains impressive. It is the witness of a feudal era when powerful lords dominated the population. Built at the top of the Rue de la Pierre de l'Homme, the tower owes its name to its location: in Occitan, "plô" means "small plateau" or "place on a high point". It is in this tower, a symbol of the high justice that the viscounts were given, that judicial sessions were held. The ground floor was also used as a prison. It had an oval courtyard at its foot. The Plô tower, about twenty metres high, dominates the old town. This unique building is listed as a Historic Monument
