SAINT-AURELIAN CHAPEL
Chapel built in the 15th century, housing the relics of Saint Aurelian, the second bishop of Limoges
Built in the th century, this small and discreet chapel in the Boucherie district houses the relics of Saint Aurélien, the second bishop of Limoges. And as the whole neighbourhood is the butchers, they have adopted it as a pattern. In the Revolution, the chapel is confiscated, but butchers'families pay for the property. Even today, the chapel belongs to this Saint-Aurélien fraternity. The interior of this small building is full of liturgical furniture. Saint's skull is in a silvery bust, itself in a socket that is only released on the first Sunday after Easter and every seven years for expositions. On the square in front of the chapel, the bronze pietà, called Our Lady of the Little Bellies, watches the neighborhood. Along the facade, a limestone cross. Down, the twelve apostles. At the top, behind Christ in Cross hides a representation of Jesus receiving the insulting of soldiers, the first step in his journey of suffering.
