Emblematic forest development straddling several communes, a green lung in the Paris region.
A vast area of over 2,000 hectares, located between the Val Parisis and Cergy-Pontoise conurbations, has been the setting for the creation of a huge forest since 2019. Straddling several communes (Bessancourt, Frépillon, Herblay-sur-Seine, Méry-sur-Oise, Pierrelaye, Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône and Taverny), this wooded area has been given the name Maubuisson, and represents an environmental challenge of the highest order. Although the area has always been an important agricultural space, the idea is to make it a green lung for the Paris region, by combating air pollution and preventing the development of urbanization. The Val Parisis conurbation, a signatory to the Contrat d'Intérêt National (CIN), works with the Syndicat Mixte d'Aménagement de la Plaine de Pierrelaye (SMAPP) to manage future services to the site. To date, over 400,000 seedlings have been planted: lime, birch, hornbeam, maple, red oak and corm trees are currently growing on the land. Planting campaigns will continue every winter until 2028, with the aim of planting one million trees by 2029. At the time of writing, 500,000 trees have already been planted, with an average of 1,500 to 2,500 seedlings per hectare. Considering that the forest will be mature in 30 to 50 years' time, numerous visits are now being organized to better understand the environmental stakes involved in this project, the largest forest creation project in centuries. Don't miss these events!
