TANG FRÈRES

Delicatessen Asian products
3.8/5
8 reviews

Who says Tang Frères, says Asian supermarkets. It is the reference in the field. A bit of history: this supermarket on Avenue d'Ivry, created in 1976 by two Chinese brothers from Laos, is the first, the best known, the biggest and the most well-stocked. Since then, the Tang family has opened others, in the 13th district (avenue de Choisy) and beyond (in Noisiel, Vitry-sur-Seine, Pantin...). "What you don't find at Tang Frères, you're unlikely to find elsewhere: it doesn't exist", we've heard... Come here for a change of scenery, exoticism, inspiration and try these recipes from elsewhere that will wake up your guests' taste buds!

PARIS STORE

Delicatessen Asian products
3.7/5
3 reviews

A large blue brand, less discreet than its competitor Tang, but we find the same lively and teeming atmosphere of Asian stores. When you enter on the left, you see the sauces and side dishes: Nuoc-mam, nam pla, oyster sauce, chili sauce, soy sauce (available in 5-litre jerrycans!), Worcestshire sauce from Léa & Perrins, etc. On the right, a large frozen food section that is really worth it. There are sorbets with exotic flavours, but also shrimps, skewers, nems and various steamed ravioli sold in bags of 50 at unbeatable prices. For rice, there is plenty to choose from with the famous 50 kg bags of butterfly rice, broken rice, noodles, including Japanese noodles, teas, canned drinks and instant soups. An entire section is dedicated to spices and condiments, and alcohols are well represented, so avoid French wine, which is not of high quality. For all fruit and vegetables, the choice is breathtaking. The problem: labels, not translated, and salespeople who are only moderately French-speaking.

BIG STORE

Delicatessen Asian products
3.5/5
2 reviews

This supermarket offers excellent fruits of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and Japanese products that are not found in the rest of the neighborhood. Display is a real desire to immerse itself in exoticism. Despite its name, it is a little crushed by the two big competitors Tang Frères and Paris Store. So don't hesitate to change your sidewalk to get a tour at Big Store, maybe a little more expensive than its competitors but you won't be décu from this little trip…

As many people know, the Butte-aux-Cailles is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in the capital, thanks in particular to its wealth of bistros and wine and beer offerings. The Biérocratie, also very lively, welcomes in all conviviality the amateurs of foam. Craft beers from all over the world are offered on the menu and regularly highlighted during various events: beer and cheese evenings, selections of the month... Here, initiatives are developed, like these "collaborations" with various breweries.

MARCHÉ VINCENT-AURIOL

Market

From boulevard Vincent-Auriol to rue Jeanne-d'Arc, this is not just a food market. At one time, the cheapest part of the market was at the bottom, near the Chevaleret metro station; the further up you went, the higher the prices... At peak times, it's hard to get around. Of particular note are the (many) organic fruit and vegetable stalls, an absolutely impeccable cheesemonger, and excellent breads and pastries. If you're a first-time visitor, allow a good hour to get through it all.

MARCHÉ AUGUSTE-BLANQUI

Market

Very or too busy on Sunday mornings, this large market, which goes from Place d'Italie to Rue Barrault, is not empty on the other days. Don't let the crowd, gathered here to enjoy with you the reasonable prices of the products on the shelves, stop you. In addition, you would miss a very wide offer. There is even a saleswoman selling Russian products. The people who visit this market sometimes come from neighboring cities, and it is understandable why: it is easily accessible and, once again, very well stocked. In short, it is one of the most important in the south of the capital, so you are warned!

TOUS À LA CAVE

Caviste

A small neighborhood cellar filled like Ali Baba's cave. We love the friendly, open-minded advice from the owner. There's a great range of wines at all price points, and new discoveries to be made every week. What's more, the owner organizes a wide range of wine tastings, from Banyuls and Agenais to Côte du Luberon, Lillet Blanc and Côtes de Castillon. In his cellar, of course, are whiskies, eaux-de-vie, liqueurs, beers, aperitifs, crèmes de liqueurs and local produce.

CURIOSITÉS

Market gardeners

It's a simple fact: the standardization of visual criteria and the waste of food for futile reasons are taking their toll. Thus, many fruits and vegetables considered as "ugly" are irremediably thrown away before being consumed: crooked carrots, tomatoes with a big nose, deformed strawberries. That's why Curiosities has set itself the goal of offering them to you: no more waste, hello original (and not ugly) fruits that keep their flavor and, for many, will bring an original touch to your dishes. The icing on the cake is that the company makes it a point of honor to pay the producers concerned as much as possible. True to her values, Maria the owner continues her quest for ever more responsible and ethical products and now offers a well-stocked grocery section (aperitif cakes, spreads, wine, beer, cookies...) but also more exotic but still eco-responsible fruits and vegetables (avocados, mangoes, oranges...) thanks to her partnership with Etic Miam.

CHOCOLATIER DE PARIS

Chocolatier
1/5
1 review

For more than a quarter of a century this small family business offers quality, old, local or organic chocolates and confections, works councils, communities and individuals who benefit from attractive prices through a loyalty card (10% discount) and promotions. Here you find real Nougat De, real bêtises of Cambrai, antan candy with taste, fruity flavors, sugar, soft colors, tender gimauves, white or coloured sugar and of course excellent homemade chocolates. But the amateurs of organic products go mainly to provide tasty organic chocolate platelets, black, black, milk, almonds, with a version for the very greedy: kilo! We uncovers a selection of teas at very competitive prices. The greater the house: The staff were friendly and helpful.
