Lighthouse at Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac, accessible by land and sea at high tide, offering a panoramic view of the estuary

At the edge of the Dutch polders (the mattes) built in the 17th century, a tree guided the navigation on the Gironde estuary, the largest in Europe: Richard's Tree. At the beginning of the 19th century, this tree was cut down by a storm and replaced in 1843 by an 18 meters lighthouse. Managed by an association, the lighthouse of Richard offers a 360° panoramic view on the estuary. Its museum describes the life of the estuary and local navigation from the 19th century to the present day. The site is accessible by land and sea at high tide.

Reposant.
