MILLS
These mills are the symbol of the city's past marked by the textile industry and by its production of Indian women.
Today, 3 of the 14 mills that lined the Bolbec River in the 19th century remain. The mill of the Fountain located in the enclosure of the Oril factory, the Vallot mill in the street of the Martyrs-de-la-Résistance, and the Seminel mill in the Papavoine alley are the symbol of the past of the city marked by the textile industry and by its production of Indian women, started at the end of the 18th century. They were used to operate machines requiring water and steam. There were nearly 18 factories in the town on the eve of the French Revolution.
