HERMITAGE OUR LADY OF MIÈGES

Pilgrimages already existed here in the ^11th century. Legend has it that in the ^15th century, a silver statue of the Virgin Mary was stolen from the church at Mièges and found its way to this spot, known as La Corvée. An oratory was built here, then - in the early ^17th century - the present chapel, which was converted in the ^19th and ^20th centuries. In 1613, the hermit François Carlier brought here a Virgin carved from a miraculous oak from Montaigu-en-Brabant. Since then, an annual pilgrimage has taken place.
