Located in the Chartrons district, the Bordeaux Maritime History Museum brings to life the city's maritime, port and river past. The history of the Port of the Moon (nickname given to the port of Bordeaux because of its shape) is retraced here thanks to numerous treasures on display to the public: reproductions, models, navigation instruments... The museum is very informative, with audio guide in different language that explain the exhibits very well about the maritime history of Bordeaux. There are many detailed ship models of old sail boats of different times, and with informative explanations. There are also many old maps from back in the days, which are interesting to see. Also some books about sail boats and the history of the area available to read. I would recommend people who are interested to learn more about the history of Bordeaux, and those who are interested in sail boats etc. to visit the museum, you can learn a lot.

A small and humble museum but if you are seriously interested in Bordeaux and how it became an economic powerhouse through its port and the shipping industry then you just might visit. I thought it was well worth the 8 euros but I like maritime topics and history. I’d go back with friends. Much more informative about its topic then that dumb Cité du Vin (avoid).
