A museum with a collection of works of art and iconic pieces from the maritime world, to discover the history of the marine world.

Embark on an artistic voyage through the history of the marine world! In a modern, uncluttered scenography, an exceptional private collection of works of art, boats and iconic pieces from the maritime world recounts the great battles, the adventures of explorers and pirates, the beliefs and legends of the sea, and the life of flora and fauna in all its beauty and fragility. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions linked to current cultural events, as well as lectures, screenings and musical performances.

Must-visit in Bordeaux. Excellent museum. Shame the modern section wasn’t translated.

Never bypass Musee Mer Marine, after your visit to La Cite du Vin. It is a 10 MN walk from it. İt is full of ship exhibits of all kinds: old wooden warships, contemporary french navy battle ships, transatlantics, a small gallery of paintings about sea and ships. The Titanic and ocean liner France replicas are exceptionally good.

Magnifique musée

I admit to being a boat geek, so I enjoyed it. But, this is a little more expensive than other Bordeaux museums, it is largely model ships with good explanations in French and English on 1st floor (ancient times).
On 2nd floor (1900 onwards) there are numerous models but they were "spoiled for a ha'pworth of tar"! The majority of models had no labels, so you can see an impressive model ship but with no information what the ship is. Hours spent making the model and it would take minutes to put an identification label on it. Crazy waste! About a third of this floor is nothing but display boards that are not translated from French.
Third floor had nice art display and a few extinct sea critters.
