The Palais Rohan stands right next to Saint-André Cathedral. A guided tour introduces visitors to this monument, built in 1772 on the initiative of Archbishop Mériadec de Rohan. Archbishop's palace until the Revolution, Hôtel du Département, seat of the Revolutionary Court in 1791, Hôtel de la Préfecture in 1802, Imperial Palace under Napoleon I in 1808, Royal Castle in 1815 under Louis XVIII, it finally became Bordeaux's Hôtel de Ville in 1837. During your visit, don't forget to take in the monumental Great Staircase: it's well worth a look!
