BURGUNDY DOOR
Porte de Bourgogne on the Bir Hakeim square, a real triumphal arch that marks the beginning of the Pont de Pierre and the Cours Victor-Hugo
The Burgundy Gate stands triumphantly on Bir Hakeim Square. Unmistakable, it marks on one side the beginning of the Pont de Pierre and on the other side the Cours Victor-Hugo. Completed in 1755, the Porte de Bourgogne, built by Portier on the order of Intendant Tourny, is a real triumphal arch. Particularly well located, facing the river, it now contributes to the majesty of the prestigious façade of the Bordeaux quays. Originally, it was built on the site of the former Porte des Salinières, which preserved the sleep and serenity of the inhabitants of Bordeaux since it was closed at night, at 8pm in winter!
