Big Bell being part of the ramparts of Bordeaux, then converted into a prison and became a belfry, to see in guided tour
In the Middle Ages, the Grosse Cloche was part of the city walls, before undergoing numerous modifications. A rare monument from this period that Bordeaux has preserved, the place was transformed into a prison - you can see the drawings and inscriptions of the inmates who counted their days of confinement - before becoming one of the most touristic belfries in France. If you like to travel back in time, opt for a guided tour. It's best to come at night, when the Big Bell is lit up with blue lights!

La Grosse Cloche est le bâtiment emblématique de Bordeaux. Au Moyen-Âge , c'était le beffroi de la ville. On peut visiter son intérieur qui servait de prison et admirer son horloge qui marche encore.

La visite de la Grosse Cloche est possible en été, par groupe de 5 personnes, un petit panneau est installé à l'entrée. Le guide est intarissable d'explications sur ce monument et le quartier. En plus à certaines dates la Grosse Cloche se fait entendre, pour le plus grand plaisir des badauds.
