This Haut-Doubs institution dates back to 1890. Five generations of know-how have created famous beverages such as the fir bud liqueur or the famous Pontarlier-Anis with green anise. But it's also absinthe that takes pride of place in this distillery. In 2007, the distillery was awarded the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) distinction, a label given to French companies with excellent craft and industrial know-how. A new management team is carrying on the tradition with some very fine innovations.

It wouldn't be a big deal tough, since you came for the tasting right?
But, here is the catch, the quality of the product (I tried the whole range of what is available) is, to put it mildly, below average. It feels like a syrup-concentrate has been added to not the highest grade of alcohol. The guys are doing a brisk business, but it's all a pure trickery of a clueless consumer. I warmly recommend to pay attention to some small local spirits producers (not only absinthe). Their products are often for an acquired taste, but at least they are clearly of a higher quality.
