A monastery was created in 672 by Benedictine, on a vast and rich meadow, crossed by the river de la Voire. It will bear the name Putéol, transformed into Puisy (name found in the region). The name comes from a Celtic word meaning "oak". The monastery that gave its name to Montier (Monasterium in dervo) will enjoy a beautiful expansion in the Middle Ages, and the village will become common in the sixteenth century. The abbey, commandeered as national in the Revolution, will be bought by the commune. The abbatial Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul abbey, a magnificent wood-paneled building to visit. Montier-en-Der, half destroyed in 1940, today presents a smiling face just a few minutes from the lake. The particularly clay terrain has many restorations. The town hall, an ancient wheat hall, was restored in the xixe because the façade was leaking, reinforcements are made thanks to iron columns that maintain this beautiful monument. The city is very welcoming, well located. It is rich in leisure, with a national haras renowned since 1806, a racecourse, and especially hosts a festival of wildlife photography which now attracts more than 40,000 visitors!
