The green Venice... Situated at the bottom of a small valley, in the green landscape of humid Champagne, Soulaines is crossed in all its length by the Laine, which takes its source in a resurgence (the Dhuys) in the center of the locality, to which it owes its name in part. Legend has it that couples who had come to dance there, unable to escape their amorous games when the church bells invited them to the service, were buried in the chasm that opened at the last chime, and that water gushed out of it... The Henri-IV bridge, one of the twelve in the commune, is a tribute to the king's passage through these parts.
