Perched on a hill, Saint-Phal is a picturesque village with its large verdant square. The family of the same name gave a whole series of abbesses to the abbey Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains de Troyes. It was from Saint-Phal in 1429 that Joan d 'Arc sent a letter to the lords of Troyes asking them to open their doors to the "nice Roy de France" for a stop on the road to Reims.
