PARCO NAZIONALE DELLA SILA

Located on the edge of the beach, the archaeological area houses the ruins of the ancient Greek Caulonia, founded by Crotone. Excavations have uncovered different strata of habitat, consisting of main streets (plateiai) parallel to the sea and by minor streets (stenopoi), perpendicular. The most representative housing is the Dragon House; it owes its name to its inner mosaic mosaic, which represents a dragon. But above all, on the beach, the remains of a Doric temple in the Fifth century B.C.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF SIBERIA

the park is divided into different excavation zones that archaeologists have designated different names. It actually encompasses the remains of monuments of the three cities built by Wellness at different times: Sibari, the achaean colony; Thurii, built by the will of the Athenians and Pericles; Gaul, the Latin Colony founded in 194 B.C. The sector called Parco del Cavallo illustrates the Superposition of the three cities thanks to a series of discoveries that highlighted the houses of Gaul, the walls of the houses of Thurii and the two arteries (pateiai), north-south and east-west. In the Cavallo Park, the most important building of Gaul, the theatre, of a semi-circular plane built in tufa. It consists of semi-circular stands and a large portico, dated from the th and th centuries B.C. On the other side of the road, at the site of Casabianca, where the remains of the colony of Thourioi are located, a zone whose nature is subject to multiple interpretations. Some of them see a site for boat repair, others a space where the merchants who, having joined the port, had to join the market, were standing in Indian to pay their price, under the authority of the competent personnel.
