Things to see and do Provence-Alpes-Côte D'Azur

Under the name of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the parish of La dates from the th century. It was in 1215 that the order of Saint John of Jerusalem acquît, along with the seigneury of Tallard, the tithes of La and collected three quarters. The priest had the remaining quarter. In 1690, a secondary school in this parish for Fouillouse was created. In 1703, André Isnard, a village resident, founded the chapel of Our Lady of Consolation. The Saulce was then part of the Archiprêtré archiprêtré.

Classified as Historic Monument since 1913, Our lady of Bethlehem, one of the largest churches of High Provences with its 32 metres high, is part of its hidden treasures. To access it, you need to explore a long trail that climbs up to the old village of Walnut-sur-Jabron, abandoned for decades. This building was built in the th century and depends on the Monastery of Ganagobie. 

The Roman route, linking Arles to Briançon, passed through Vitrolles. Today, there is still the old trail called "The Railway Trail" which indicates the direction of the road. Unlike what one might think, this path passed on the flank of the mountains, at relatively high height, not on the edge of the Durance. 

It is on a nipples near the village you will find the ruins of the old Seigneurial castle of Vitrolles called the Châtelart. It was formerly composed of two parts. The first, older, was only a tower, built with a well-appareillées cubic stone and camée on the highest point of the hill in the th century. Below you will see a large construction of the th century whose plan appears to have been an elongated parallelogram with a round tower at each angle. In the th century it will be added a building body that saillie on the facade. On a mound, near the Plan-de-Vitrolles, the remains of a castle built in small stones reign, as well as the debris of an old castle on the sides of the adjacent mountain. An elevation crowned by the beautiful ruins of the convent of Donzard, formerly belonging to the Templar, is visible to the north-west of the church of Upper Vitrolles. This unusual sculpture in downtown Toulon is a life-size reproduction of the prow of the frigate La Flore, a royal ship of the ^18th century. The original figure, which represents Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, is on display at the Musée National de la Marine. Leaning against a wall, where a mast and a sail are painted, this monumental work is more than 10 meters high. It will pleasantly surprise you when you arrive on the small Vatel square, lost in the middle of the pedestrian streets of Toulon, between the Vezzani street and the Capucins passage.

Clausonne Abbey is located in a very mountainous valley, a circus locked by two narrow parades. The first one communicates with the village of Saix through the Gorge gorge. The second connects it to Vitrolles, through the high valley of Peyssiers, which offers for only horizon, the surrounding high ridges. The Plein River is located at the foot of Peyssiers Mountain at the foot of Bali mountain. It reigns in the heart of green pastures, decorated by pine and beech forests, which occupy the base of the surrounding terrain. The Association of Friends of Clausonne Abbey, founded in 1994, organizes, organizes and supervises annual workshops of excavations and consolidations with various partners (Commune du Saix, NFB, General Council, Region, DRAC, DRJS…), with the aim of preserving this cultural heritage, as of the Middle Ages.

Here, workshops for both small and large are proposed: engraving, modelling, sculpture or printing. Let yourself embark on a real journey over time and through different continents, gestures and trades.

This naturalist outing allows you to watch cetaceans off the Cape of Sicie and Hyeres islands. Thanks to two conferences dispensed aboard the ship, aquatic mammals that will cross your path, striped dolphin, bottlenose dolphin, Risso's dolphin, black pilot whales, sperm whales and even common rorqual will have no secret for you. Other meetings with tuna, swordfish, sharks, rays, turtles and sunfish will perhaps make your boat trip a memorable one.

Saint-Véran, located in the Queyras region, is a true jewel of the Alps. This picturesque village, one of the highest in the Alps, offers an idyllic setting for mountain lovers. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking, with snow-capped peaks, verdant valleys and charming Alpine villages. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking and skiing. The LE SOUM museum is also a must-see in the region. It features exhibitions on local history and culture, as well as the region's flora and fauna.

Tends, or the largest open-air museum in Europe. Everything here invites to contemplation: the picturesque streets of medieval villages, fountains, washing machines… You don't have enough? Continue until the only remnant of the Lascaris Castle: The view over the Mercantour and the village lauze roofs is amazing. The Tends Territory also includes the Valley of Wonders; the municipality is even, it says, the door. After such a walk, do you not find this name well deserved?

A very good excuse for combining culture and walking on foot! This Miners'Trail invites you to return to the footsteps of the peasant-miners and their hard work. Coal used to be used in the manufacture of heating balls; today, some traces of its exploitation are still visible. After you are committed to the "Coal Trail", at the end of approximately 2 kilometres, note, among other things, rail carts rails: they report the presence of two former mines.

Tourist marinas or protected natural parks, modern seaside constructions or authentic medieval villages; the Alpes-Maritimes offer several facets, sometimes diametrically opposed. In only 10 km, the Promenade promenade offers a global panorama. We start by the sea at the Baie des Anges marina, then continue along the Wolf, this coastal river, which Raffolaient les International and the Grassais in the Belle Époque. After a stop in the old Provençal village of Villeneuve-Loubet, we finally reach the departmental Natural Park of the Banks of the Wolf, to recover smoothly.

Boasting as many beaches as kilometres of coastline, Le Lavandou is now a popular seaside resort for holidaymakers looking for sun and sports activities. It is difficult to believe that it was only a fishing village just a few decades ago. The tourism office at Le Lavandou offers you the opportunity to explore the history of the city with a tour guide that will give you the anecdotes of this fabulous evolution. Visits take place on Tuesdays and Fridays in July and August, upon reservation.
