OBSERVATOIRE DE LA SORBONNE

Astronomy

There are many tourists on the path of the nearby Pantheon to lift their eyes to the sky and to discover, rue Saint-Jacques, a strange tower of observation over a dome: This is the observatory of the Sorbonne, a building previously reserved for students who made their astronomy classes in the prestigious establishment. Today, the beautiful astronomical 153 mm diameter set under the dome, dating back to 1935, is managed by the Astronomical Society of France. Two evenings per week, depending on weather conditions, a small group of observers (5 to the maximum) can access this atypical place on the exclusive condition of reserved its place beforehand. Up there, apart from the fact that the bezel and its dome are beautiful, we discover another Paris from an exceptional and rare point of view. If we are lucky enough to have the moon or some planets on the night of his coming, their vision at the ocular, while Paris is crawling below the feet, is a magical experience to say the least. The return on the floor of cows is then an experiment… very land on earth.

OBSERVATOIRE DE PARIS

Astronomy
4.8/5
10 reviews

This is a mysterious half-hidden establishment behind its grids, following the Luxembourg Gardens and the Great Explorers, at the end of the Observatory Avenue. The Paris Observatory is in fact a generic designation of the Paris observatories, of Meudon (these two institutions are closed to the public until 2020, due to rehabilitation work) and Nançay. The observatory in Paris as it is interested is one of the oldest in the world still active! He was founded in 1667 for the academic astronomers of Louis XIV, before he knew a story rich in discoveries and observations until the end of the twentieth century. Notable instruments present under dome are the splendid Arago Zago, whose construction was initiated by François Arago, director of the observatory from 1843 to 1853. It is a equatorial bezel with an objective of 38 cm diameter and 9 m of focal (the length of the tube being substantially identical). Put into service in 1854, it is the largest beet in the world. Today, it serves mainly the general public (as part of specific visits), and sometimes for students' practical work. To note the presence very close to the Garden of the Observatory (access by the 98 Arago Boulevard), which houses a hundred trees of various tree trees, flower beds, etc., from which we have an interesting view on the dome Arago although a little distant. Since 1992, the Meridian of Paris has been spotted on the ground, perfectly visible from the entrance grid of the garden.

Hobbies and other leisure activities

The Coordination de l'Enseignement du Portugais à Paris is one of the 11 teaching coordinations of the EPE (Enseignement du Portugais à l'Étranger) network of Camões, Institut de la Coopération et de la Langue. It is responsible for coordinating the activities of teachers of Portuguese language and culture abroad, promoting interaction between the different levels and modalities of teaching, and fostering the teaching of Portuguese as a non-native and foreign language in educational programs and systems. Portuguese is taught in French elementary school by teachers appointed by the Camões I.P. This teaching can take place as part of the pupils' school curriculum (ELVE - enseignement de langue vivante étrangère) or outside school hours (EILE - enseignement international de langue étrangère). In middle and high schools, Portuguese is taught by the French Ministry of Education, in accordance with the educational cooperation protocol signed in 2006 between the French and Portuguese Ministries of Education. In addition to this teaching, the French education system also offers Portuguese international sections in certain schools, where a complementary Portuguese curriculum is taught from the first year of primary school through to the final year of secondary school. These sections offer excellent teaching, opening up wider prospects for students, both in terms of multiculturalism and the acquisition of linguistic and cultural skills. Teachers of Portuguese language and literature are placed by Camões I.P. Finally, Portuguese is also taught in several French universities, with the support of Camões I.P. through agreements signed with these establishments. Courses in Portuguese as a foreign language are also offered to adults by the Centre Culturel Camões, I.P. in Paris.

SOCIÉTÉ CENTRALE D'APICULTURE

Hobbies and other leisure activities

The Société centrale d'Apiculture (SCA) was created more than 150 years ago to contribute to the bee's survival, fighting ancestral bee practices (étouffage) which lead virtually to destroying strong colonies and thus to promoting the survival of the weakest strains. Recognized as a public utility in March 1900, FCC strongly contributed to the prohibition of these practices at the beginning of the th century. The organizer of several exhibitions and congresses, she was responsible for the creation of many bee groups.

The company has set itself the objective of disseminating scientific knowledge and their extension, has never ceased its mission of adult training at the Apiary School of Jardin du Luxembourg and more recently children, at the Pédagogique Pedagogical Centre of Parc Georges Brassens.

For several decades now, the bee has been threatened by pesticides used extensively in intensive agriculture, and today by introducing genetically modified plants (gmos) into our environment whose consequences could prove catastrophic for pollinators insects and thus for man. Recognition of the bee's essential role in ecosystems and the preservation of natural balances is now at the heart of this association's concerns for bees, honey and beekeepers. Join!

TÉLESCOPE JEAN-MARC SALOMON

Astronomy
4.5/5

The amateur observatory Jean-Marc Solomon (in tribute to a precursor to the diffusion of amateur science and astronomy in France, disappeared far too soon) is probably the most beautiful of Ile-de-France. It is in the heart of the Buthiers Leisure Island that it is located, very close to the Fontainebleau Forest, in a natural environment conducive to relaxation, sport and outdoor activities. It was funded by the Regional Council of Ile-de-France, the Jean-Marc Solomon Foundation, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The equipment at its disposal is state-of-the-art, with a 600 mm telescope in a particularly high-performance dome, and smaller mobile instruments, which are used in particular during public evenings when there are many people at the observatory. The activities proposed on the spot have names to say the least… Interstellar travel (to leave for one night of observations under dome travel to celestial wonders), 1.2.3-star training (to learn the sky according to three different levels of deepening: introduction to astronomy, learn to use well and settle its telescope, learn to photograph astronomical objects), and of course the great classics such as the Stars of Stars during which the small dishes are placed in the big to accommodate as much audience as possible, the constellations, the main celestial objects, etc.

As well as the profession of wine lovers, the profession of tea experts provokes thousands of questions from the audience, the substance of which revolves around the delicate question "but how do they make so many aromas? '. Well, even if a personal donation seems welcome, it is learning and better, it works! A good dose of motivation, the firm intention not to conceal its smell or taste, the opening to countries where tea is built in the art of living, and very much to bet that by some classes of the tea school, created by the Palace des Thés in 1999, you can make the difference, blindfolded, between a sencha and a bancha, and more. in which climatic conditions these teas have been picked. To do this, you must follow the introductory courses for tea tasting in 10   modules: " What is tea? ", "in good conditions", "tasting mechanisms", "express sensations"; " Japanese teas ". After that, you can fully appreciate training sessions for tea tasting, in the area of particular interest to us: the session of green teas and that of teas in Japan. More theoretical, conferences are also given as one on the tea ceremony, chanoyu, tea in Japan, or tea and ceramics, guided tour of the Guimet museum. The program can change for the year to follow, find out! The School of Tea also organizes intensive sessions over a week together with the 3 axes of the above curriculum, which makes it possible to further elaborate on the topic in detail, finally twice a year the school organizes travel in total immersion in the tea universe in Darjeeling. The Tea School is a superb 200 m ² space dedicated to tea, including a wall of curiosity (our of unusual tea objects), library, dining room and tea pavilion where you can get to chanoyu.
