A bridge between schools and associative tissue, the Sports Directorate allows young people between the ages of 7 and 14 to access leisure, workshops and sports courses organized by the city's animation-coordination service. These are proposed physical activities of full nature, in the river, in caves, in the sea or in the mountains. On a fee that takes account of the public's income, these activities complement the services of other sports clubs (CLSH and Youth Service). The supervision is provided by territorial educators, all state-patented and/or licensed in science and technology (STAPS). The Nîmes Arena is a must-see cultural monument during your stay in the city. Built around 100 AD, they are considered the best-preserved amphitheatre of the Roman Empire. Unlike the Colosseum in Rome, the Nîmes Arena has been preserved and converted into a residential area, allowing visitors to explore its arena, stands, interior galleries and arcades. With a capacity of 24,000 spectators, the amphitheatre offers a unique experience to relive the atmosphere of the Roman games. Visitors can also explore the subterranean galleries that were used to conjure up scenery and fighters on the track. In addition to the amphitheatre, visitors can also discover the Nîmes gladiator school and learn more about the history of the bull, which has always occupied an important place in the Arènes. THE CAMARGUAISE RACE. Seeing this kind of spectacle in St. Laurent-d'Aigouze is an additional charm, for the singularity of these arenas attached to the church and whose presbytery serves as a toril (where the bulls are locked). It must be said that the priest of Saint-Laurent is a perfect aficionado.

Which charming small village Vénéjean; You will not regret the detour, just at the exit of Bagnols. Small cobbled streets, large stone houses… and if you don't miss the courage, climb up to the top of the village, not just for sight. St. Baptiste Chapel dates back to the th century and its murals are very well preserved. At the top you will discover a windmill in operation and the Romanesque chapel Saint-Pierre drowned in a green setting. It is in this context that every year the Musical evenings of Vénéjean occur in July. A medieval castle owned by a private owner dating back to the th century dominates this adorable small village.

Created under the Revolution, the departmental archives keep records on the history of Hérault and the former Languedoc province from the ninth century to the present. Curious, professional and private are welcomed in the former Couvent convent, in the Fine Arts district, before being able to integrate their new premises in the north-west of the city. The general council has chosen to build a Pharaoh building (a cost exceeding 130 M €!) to accommodate the valuable archives. For the time being, history buffs can immerse themselves in almost 40 km of archives! Thematic workshops are also proposed around the culture and history of local heritage. Note: an educational and cultural service is available to students and teachers.
