Up a flight of stairs overlooking Ganga Mahal Ghat, this small restaurant attracts many travelers who settle in Varanasi for a while. Ashish's family lives here and has set up a room and a veranda on the first floor. The food is simple, delicious and prepared with fresh ingredients. It is one of the best places in the city for excellent thalis. The address is signposted from the ghat, and you'll have no trouble spotting the bright blue house with flower pots in front.

Don't let the unwelcoming entrance put you off, because this is a very good restaurant. Two large, dark, windowless rooms are always welcoming Indian families looking for a good South Indian vegetarian dish. On the upper floors, the tavern, which offers a wide choice of correct dishes but at prices well above average, as well as alcohol, wine and beer. The Indian recipes are excellent, especially those cooked in the tandoor which are the specialty of the place. The setting is resolutely mountainous with woodwork. Sports events broadcast on the screens even give it an Irish pub feel.

A stylish restaurant very much appreciated by the golden youth, which we warmly recommend. Excellent Indian and continental dishes. At Mocambo, you are definitely not in India anymore: the chic and cozy setting first surprises you, then the specialties of the house take you far away from the Ganges. Seafood, crab, lobster are on the menu, as well as beef! Service with the small care. An elegant address recommended.

The restaurant of the Zone by the Park hotel, located in the north of Bani Park, serves many western and eastern specialties to satisfy its international clientele. But it also offers a short selection of Rajasthani specialties that are worth a visit. You will find them under the selection "khammaghani". Here, the gulab jamun is served in a savory version in a thick cashew sauce. If you prefer the non-vegetarian option, you can enjoy a tasty Shekhawati chicken.

Faced with the gastronomic desert of the old city and the influx of tourists to the City Palace, the maharaja had the good idea to transform a courtyard of the palace into a restaurant. The menu is in the fusion mode, with a touch of spices and typical local products. You can choose between a beet and quinoa salad or a lamb curry served with millet and chard. If the flavors are perfectly balanced, we can only regret a nonchalant and not very involved service, especially since the prices are quite high.

A cosy place for breakfast. You can choose to sit on cushions in the room on the second floor, at a table or out in the sun on the terrace. The place smells of fresh coffee and freshly baked pastries. Savoury and sweet snacks (salads, quiches, cakes, etc.) and also excellent breakfasts on offer, fresh fruit juices, vegan vegetarian recipes, gluten-free... And, best of all, homemade croissants and pains au chocolat! Warmly recommended.

One of the best Tibetan restaurants in the city; the vegetable and cheese kothay is great! It is frequented by monks, locals and volunteers from NGOs working in McLeod Ganj. An interesting initiative: you can fill your empty water bottle for 5 Rs and thus reduce the impact of plastic bottles on the environment. This family-run establishment, which has been open for years, also offers decent rooms at affordable prices.

This restaurant, near the bridge, has a beautiful terrace overlooking the Manalsu River. A bakery offers breads, cakes and other home-made delicacies that make it the ideal place for breakfast. Close to the fire station, this small café on the second floor run by the friendly Mohan is worth the trip. The place, simple and pleasant, proposes a rich menu. On the menu: soups, wraps, sandwiches, quiches but also Indian dishes, noodles, pasta, etc. We recommend the kathi rolls, excellent and copious. Also pastries, tea and a good coffee from the percolator. Warm welcome, view of the City Hall. This place is perfect to start the day, for lunch or for a gourmet break.

This friendly establishment offers Tibetan specialties( porkmomos, mutton momos, vegetable momos, thugkpa, etc.) as well as Chinese and Thai dishes with great success. The red painted restaurant is spread over two floors and is located near the post office, you can't miss it! An excellent choice for lunch. Some cakes and desserts are also offered, including a very good lemon cheesecake. Feel free to leave your opinion on a paper napkin, as many customers have done before you.

Located behind the São Tomé church, this restaurant run by an Indo-Portuguese family serves Portuguese cuisine with Indian influences, such as this cozido de peixe (fish stew) or this grilled fish with garlic potatoes. Everything is served under a pergola built in the garden, on nicely tablecloths and with pleasant music in the background. On the other hand, the menu is limited and only one brand of beer is offered, quite surprising in Diu! It's also a pity that the atmosphere is sometimes spoiled by the bad attitude of the owner...

To the right after the first gate of the fort, this café with a few tables serves snacks and cold drinks throughout the day. Located in one of the buildings of the palace, you will appreciate its courtyard shaded by a beautiful century-old tree. The rooms offered are out of the ordinary since they are located within the entrance gate of the fort! Air-conditioned, they are all charming and comfortable. If you can, ask for the Bee eater, a spacious room at the top of the gate with a nice terrace overlooking the city.

In a small and not very welcoming room, they serve an authentic and modern Bengali cuisine. The mutton curries are particularly famous, but don't miss the fish specialties either.If the names don't ring a bell, try the Bhojohori Thala, a Bengali thali consisting of an assortment of vegetarian dishes, to be accompanied by a non-vegetarian main dish of your choice.

The room is spacious and impeccable, with a superb view on the Ganges. Here the Indian specialties are particularly successful (delicious thali) and adapted to European palates. And for those who are homesick, we also offer pancakes, quiches lorraine, pasta, salads, and desserts to die for. Friendly atmosphere, discreet and pleasant music, games at disposal.

The room is not very welcoming, but the service is friendly and fast. A popular place to go.
