This kabob restaurant is an institution in Lucknow. The grandfather, the chef of the last Mogul, left the art of preparing melt-in-the-mouth kababs as a precious legacy to his grandson, Mohammad Usman. You can watch the cooks at work from the street. Every day, 100,000 meals are served. On the menu: an excellent vegetarian thali made of lentils and potatoes, rice, chapati and a dessert. And for this, more than 5,000 kg of wheat flour, 1,800 kg of dal (lentils), 1,400 kg of rice, 600 kg of sugar and 700 liters of milk are needed. Upon arrival, each person takes a tray, a bowl and a stainless steel spoon. You sit in a line on the floor and are served with a ladle. Remember to hold out both hands palms up to the sky in gratitude for receiving your chapati. A unique experience!

The setting of this Imperial Hotel restaurant is more reminiscent of an English private club bar than a charming Tuscan village. Nevertheless, it has a large number of regulars, as evidenced by the napkin rings displayed at the entrance. And its terrace is simply one of the nicest in town, with its wrought iron tables and chairs. The 100% Italian menu offers just-cooked pasta, thin-crusted pizzas, cold cuts from the Botte and some must-try dishes. All absolutely delicious.

It would be a pity to stay in Udaipur without having dinner at Ambrai! Bhaset Singh, the cook of the place, is none other than the former head of the maharaja and his experience allows him some remarkable fantasies. The dishes are meticulously prepared and served quickly. The enchanting setting is ideal for a romantic dinner. In the evening, the tables are lit by candlelight and before your eyes the city is reflected in the lake. We highly recommend Jahagisi Chicken, the unique house specialty. Reservation imperative in high season.

An institution in Darjeeling since 1935. A superb establishment on three floors. On the second floor, the restaurant. It offers Indian and international cuisine. You will be surprised to see beef and pork dishes on the menu. Alcohol is also served. The dishes are good, the service professional and the room very pretty. On the first floor, a tea/pastry shop serving croissants, muffins, brioches and other cakes. Ideal for breakfast or snacks. In the basement, a large bar, frequented by both local youth and tourists.

A very popular address, close to the general post office, which is packed. You can enjoy a very good Thai, Indian or Chinese cuisine, under the eyes of a life-size "Predator". The dishes are copious and an effort is made for the presentation. The service is fast. You can also have a glass of wine, a beer or a whisky. Concert videos add a nice musical atmosphere. The place also serves as a bakery and sells bread, pastries and cakes. A good address.

You'll have to climb several flights of stairs to reach the roof of this beautifully appointed little café. Mattresses on the floor covered with colorful drapes, large cushions, low wooden tables and carpets, that's the setting. Prefer the tables at the back which look directly onto the fort. The café offers an impressive menu with no less than 17 ways to prepare chicken! The service is a bit slow and nonchalant, but very nice. And the wifi works perfectly. A good place to rest for a while, on the terrace or in the room.

For breakfast, you will be spoilt for choice: muesli, egg-bacon, toast, cakes, pancake, tea, coffee, juice... For the afternoon snack you can choose from many homemade cakes and cookies. This small restaurant is run by a Frenchman, Laurent, and his wife. On the menu: homemade pizzas, pastas, burgers, paninis, sausages and salads, with homemade ham, bacon or excellent quality lardons. It's delicious and it's a change from the usual curries... The house also offers attractive breakfast formulas. Nice service. Laurent will give you his point of view on the hectic politics in Darjeeling, especially on Gorkhaland, and you will not be bored for a second!

Probably the best Tibetan restaurant in Bodhgaya. Excellent dishes, hearty and affordable. An opportunity to try one of the many Tibetan recipes, including excellent momos, thukpas and more, accompanied by tingmo (steamed Tibetan bread). International dishes on the menu include salads, hummus, burgers and sandwiches, as well as fresh juices, smoothies and more. There's also a boutique selling clothes, books, incense and more. A great place to stroll around with a good book.

Established in 1911 by a Swedish dairy entrepreneur, Mr. Edward Keventers, "Kev's" attracts crowds. Set up on two floors, it is a grocery store and snack bar with a superb sunny terrace. Specialties of "English breakfast", pork and chicken sausages, ham, bacon, salami, omelets, etc. available in plates or sandwiches made with home-made bread. Tea, coffee, shakes... Ideal for a (very) copious breakfast or for a snack. The place is immortalized in the Indian movie Barfi! in 2012.

An institution in Kolkata, often crowded. The setting is elegant, with a superb subdued light and a sober decoration. Specialties of tandoori kebabs and kebabs, biryanis, many naan recipes... Try the Chelo Kabab, a regional mutton specialty served with rice and a fried egg. Let's be clear: the setting is nice but the menu is limited and a bit pretentious. To the Indian dishes, good but not more, prefer the European cuisine(fish & chips, lasagne, pasta, bruschettas, burgers). Forget also the pizzas, which are small and not very filling. For dessert, we highly recommend the delicious chocolate momos. And bon appétit, of course!

This restaurant is installed on the roof of the hotel Umaid Bhawan. You can eat there on the terrace, which is very pleasant in the evening when the weather is fine, or at lunchtime in winter. The address is famous for its tandoor cooking, the clay oven in which meat and naans are roasted, which take on delicate smoky notes. The very varied menu offers a large choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. But it is a bit expensive, even if the quality is good. To note, there is a pleasant little bar on the first floor that allows you to extend the evening.

As its name suggests, this restaurant offers quality cuisine inspired by the north of the country. The tandoor is in operation for lunch and dinner (which is rare), which allows you to enjoy a chicken tikka or kebabs for lunch. Some Chinese dishes are also on the menu (especially noodles) and snacks. The setting, if it is impersonal, is nonetheless comfortable. This restaurant offers a superb view on the Ganges and on the astronomical observatory of the palace built by the raja of Amber. The traditional North Indian cuisine is honored and the dishes are very copious. On the other hand, the prices are quite high (you pay for the place) and the service can sometimes be a bit dry. For the anecdote, the restaurant has this name because during the monsoon fresh water dolphins (the susu) used to come regularly to swim in the waters of the Ganges, but only during the monsoon.

It is the first of the restaurants on the road leading to the bridge and the fort, its menu is more or less the same as that of its colleagues, with a delicious eggplant curry. The owner is adorable and cooks especially for sensitive palates by subtly dosing the spices. The dishes are copious, the stomachs will be satiated, however the service is very slow, because everything is prepared to order. You have to be patient! Pleasant atmosphere.

Handi delights lovers of grilled meats: tandoori, kebab, chicken or mutton tikka, butter chicken... Obviously, vegetarians will not be left out. All this is served in a "Rajsthan rural" setting with walls covered with dried and painted mud. The large, dark room behind a blackened window may seem unattractive, but these are the standards of "cool" in India. A good place to enjoy tandoori at lunchtime. This is exceptional, since the ovens are usually only lit in the evening.

Located on the tenth floor of The Lindsay Hotel, Blue and Beyond is rooftop and offers a breathtaking view of the city. You can choose between the air-conditioned room and a very airy terrace. Ideal to admire the Victoria Memorial illuminated from 19:45. It serves quality Indian and international cuisine. The number of places on the terrace being limited, think to reserve. It's a pity that the atmosphere is a bit dull and that the waiters are a bit off...

The name of this temple of Kashmiri gastronomy is a play on words referring to Chor Bazaar, the "thieves' market". It is true that the décor of the establishment, half flea market and half antique store, resembles a certain cave prized by forty thieves. Here, you can discover the ritual of the wazwan, a farandole of 36 dishes to be tasted in good company. For a more digestible overview, we recommend the buffet. The restaurant regularly updates its menu so that its regulars do not get bored.

Located near the train station, on the main street, Amberwalla is a good place to try some South Indian specialties or to enjoy a hearty thali. Only good vegetarian dishes are served in this air-conditioned room. You will find there a local canteen atmosphere with a rather ordinary setting and an expeditious service, which does not seem to disturb the exclusively Indian clientele. For a small price, the Amber thali is an excellent choice, tasty and very nourishing. Restaurant not to be missed for the small budgets.

Located on the terrace of a hotel, a little away from the city, this restaurant is nevertheless worth your visit. The food is really delicious and the prices are quite moderate. The chef worked for several years in Japan, before coming back home to Khajuraho. The products are ultra-fresh and the dishes are prepared to order, which is why you will have to wait a little. You can choose to eat outside, on the pleasant roof terrace laid out like an urban garden, or in the air-conditioned dining room with its contemporary setting.

We eat very well and prices are not exaggerated. Dosas dosas are particularly copious and delicious. The best address of the city. On the other hand, the hotel, very noisy, is not up to the height.

The meal is served in tents, on mattresses with cushions and coffee tables. The room is also very pleasant with its varnished wooden tables and chairs with carved backs. It serves good Indian and continental cuisine, although not all dishes are the same. It's best to avoid soups, for example. There's no view of the lake, but never mind this time...

Located on a small crossroads in the old city, this tiny trailer-like shack is simply a must in Agra. The restaurant is famous for its malai kofta which is a sensation all over the world. It also offers a varied cuisine (Chinese, Indian, continental). The pressed juices and lassis are equally delicious. Don't miss the mango ones in season. Five tables with large benches and red chairs furnish the one and only room painted in bright yellow and pink with a starry ceiling.

Kwality is located near the Mall Road Shopping Market. It lacks a touch of decoration, but the place is still comfortable with its booths and armchairs. The place is well kept. The staff is friendly, which makes up for it. The food is good and the choice is vast: burgers, pizzas, sizzlers, but also good traditional Indian cuisine. At the end of the meal they will even bring you a bowl of hot lemon water to wash your hands! This unpretentious address is one of the best options in Dalhousie.

Held by a Sikh family, this small popular and authentic canteen attracts workers and inhabitants of the district but also more and more tourists. It's not surprising since you can eat very well for only a few rupees. Don't be discouraged by the uninviting front or by the basic setting... The food served is excellent! The dishes of the day, to be preferred, are written on a small slate. In addition, the portions are quite copious. The whole to be accompanied by a very good masala chai.

This unpretentious dhaba offers very cheap South Indian snacks(masala dosa, idli, vada). The old-fashioned setting wonderfully recreates the India of the 1970s, just like the portrait of Indira Gandhi hanging in the main room that nobody has yet dared to take down. If the content of the plate is exclusively turned towards the south of the country, the waiters are turbaned in the Rajasthan fashion. The atmosphere here is relaxed and the restaurant is often full, because Indians are very fond of southern cuisine, especially at breakfast.

Zee (pronounced "dji") means "respect", a name that here is not usurped. Located on the roof of the guesthouse of the same name, you can enjoy good masala dosas in calm while watching the bustling activity of the main square.

Everything in this restaurant is a bit oversized: the size of the room (very large), the backs of the chairs (very high), the brightness (very dark). A very small establishment hidden in a maze of alleyways, quite difficult to find. Follow the signs in Bangali Tola Road to get there. The first impression isn't very pleasant, but you discover that this is the HQ for Koreans visiting Varanasi. Excellent Korean cuisine (with meat available) at affordable prices. The restaurant Kalimpong is a small family establishment not to be missed! Small room, few tables, we are a little tight but there is a comforting human warmth. Smiling reception and fast service. The menu is limited, which is usually a good sign. It offers Tibetan specialties made with fresh products: vegetarian momos, mutton, chicken or pork, various noodles, thukpas, thentuk, chili pork (excellent chili pork)... Everything is delicious! A warmly recommended address.

Open since 1962, Makhan is an iconic restaurant in the city. A large, somewhat impersonal room welcomes customers. On the menu, as you might expect, are fish and chicken specialties. Recipes cooked in the tandoor, such as chicken malai tikka, mutton tikka, or fish Sangara tandoori, are all the rage. The establishment also serves alcohol, so you can accompany your meal with a cold beer. Not to be confused with the Makhan Hut.

This neighbourhood canteen, famous for its chutneys and pickles, offers unbeatable prices. No exoticism or completeness in the menu, but the basic flavours of Gujarat cuisine which is served without fuss in a very friendly atmosphere of bric-a-brac and broc. You will be able to revel in a thali gujarati or a plate of dhokla, a very old recipe based on crushed chickpeas and a paste made from fermented rice.

With its wood panelling, velvet benches and subdued lighting, this restaurant has a false air of a London pub. But when it comes to the menu, you're in India! It offers a wide range of northern specialties, including solid kebabs, as well as a few Chinese starters. The lack of competition in the Civil Lines area causes a slight sloppiness in the plate. It's certainly good, but not exciting, especially at this price. Decent choice of wine, including imported wines and a very nice cocktail list, to be consumed with moderation!

If you have not yet visited the capital of West Bengal, the cuisine served here is an excellent introduction. Fish specialties such as bekti are as fresh as they are fragrant. The kosha manhsho, a lamb curry, is also worth trying. For dessert, you can try the payesh, a kind of pudding with a strange texture, which is very digestible with tea. The service is professional, the setting refined and peaceful. If you have some money left at the end of your stay, don't hesitate to spend it here

Between two shopping trips, this small vegetarian café has a cosy atmosphere with its wooden tables and wicker armchairs. You can enjoy an Indian, Chinese or continental dish at a reduced price. Paneer tikka and vegetable pakora are good for a simple snack while the festa special thali satisfies the big appetite. The milkshakes and lassi are so creamy that you can finish them with a spoon! As far as hygiene is concerned, no worries: the waiters sing while passing the sponge on the tables and, behind his counter, the old manager watches over the grain.

With this restaurant, named in honor of Nehru, begins the corner of Mughal specialties. If some people prefer it to its competitor Karim's, it is because it is less crowded but mostly because it belongs to a family of butchers who choose better, it seems, the pieces of meat... Here, each meal has its own dish: at breakfastthe egg curry, at lunch the mutton nihari, while at dinner it's time for the very spicy kebabs. However, for the more accustomed palates, the biryani is not up to the mark.

This strictly vegetarian restaurant is located within the gigantic Lotus Temple complex, on the edge of ISKCON Temple Road. No need to venture too far to find it. The cuisine served is based on the repertoire of the south of the country and works wonders with simple ingredients. The saatvik khana prepared with garlic, onions and eggs is a success, as is the generous vegetarian thaliflavored with 56 spices. You will surely share your table with some Krishna devotees.

If there's a queue in front of this little sign, nothing could be more normal: it's the ransom of success! The kekabs and rolls are so good that they deserve a little patience. The concept includes roasts or bread patties stuffed with vegetables or marinated meats. We advise you to succumb to the chicken tikka roll unless a big hunger leads you to a biryani. The purists have found fault with the purchase of this canteen by the Mughlai chain. They take refuge in the nearby Rule The Rolls, which is run by the sons of Khan Chacha.
