The most beautiful natural sites to discover Sardinia

This rose pink granite rock gives its name to the nearby nuraghe and beach of which it is the main attraction.

The cave is accessible from Cala Sisine through a trail.

This volcanic massif in trachyte and 1,000 m tall basalt is fully covered with trees. From its summits, you can enjoy the views of volcanic points and forests.

The entrance of the site that is free is done by private gardens, not always easy to find. You must ask the owner to visit them. This is done by following the signs for the Basalti Colonnari from the city center. Guspini's column basalts are very rare geological formations, about 3 million years old. These basaltic rock walls are characterized by a hexagonal column structure produced by the removal and immediate cooling of lava flows.

This dive spot located in Capo Caccia, 10 minutes by boat from La Madonnina, offers spectacular immersion, but a little difficult. The grotto di Nereu, at two entrances, allows 4 different courses, all fascinating. The most beautiful: the Archi of Nereo and the Camera Grande, at 36 m deep.

The Di valley is very important in the region. Here several caves, a nuragique village and historic monuments are visible. Tiscali village and Corbeddu cave are also located in the valley.

The Costa del Sud, which stretches from Pula to Porto Teulada, is a sparsely populated area of wide sandy beaches, bays alternating with rocky promontories, coves and Spanish towers. This is the location of the Capo Teulada military zone, which has been in existence since 1956, and under its jurisdiction are some of the most beautiful beaches in the region, accessible to civilians only at certain times of the year, i.e. July and August. The base boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the island: fine sand and crystal-clear seas reminiscent of Caribbean scenery.

The splendid coves of Capo Malfatano, dominated by a Spanish tower and a pond in the background, were chosen as a port by the Phoenicians as early as the ^6th century BC.

Close to Teulada, Porto Tramatzu is a pearl: fine white sand, green and turquoise waters, clear and shallow seabed all the way to the islet opposite.

Nearby is the magnificent S'Ottixeddu (known as the Americans' beach), access to which is permitted (and limited) only in summer.

Another corner of paradise within the military base is Cala Zafferano, accessible only by sea in July and August.

Further west, Arenas Biancas, in the southern part of Porto Pino, is a pure gem: the beach, which is a protected natural area, is made up of very light sand and bordered by spectacular dunes up to 30 m high. The waters are crystal-clear and the seabed gently sloping.

This rather wild gorge was carved out of pink porphyry by the Rio 'e Forru, which flows along the bottom. It is here that pools of crystal-clear water have formed, as well as the so-called "giant's potholes", i.e. basins carved out of the living rock by all the little waterfalls that dot the area. The largest of these jumps some 20 m. It is advisable to visit this gorge in the dry season, to enjoy the coolness of the torrent, and above all to avoid venturing into it in stormy weather or during periods of high water.

About ten kilometers west of Santa Teresa, the inlet that enters the land from La Licciola in the north to Porto Pozzo in the south offers a succession of beautiful beaches and coves protected from the wind and the currents. Our favorite is Conca Verde but don't hesitate to take the small roads or tracks to find your ideal cove! It is crowded in summer but certainly less than in Santa Teresa. The small marina of Porto Pozzo is rather charming and has nothing to envy to the big structures of the Costa Smeralda.

The peninsula of Capo Caccia is part of the Regional Natural Park of Porto Conte. Surrounded by high limestone cliffs, it is here that the Neptune caves are sheltered. The spectacular view from the tip of the cape opens out onto the bay of Porto Conte, the bay of Alghero and the entire coast that runs southwards. Numerous hiking trails start at the Casa del Parco in Tramariglio leading to small desolate creeks. Good footwear should be worn. The park office is housed in old prison buildings.
