MAKIKA

Patisserie

First of all, we come here for its delicious pastries with a French touch (fluted, Kouign-amann, and yes) that have made its reputation in La Laguna since its opening in February 2017. But also for the place, the charming patio of an old Canary Island house where you can sit down to have breakfast with French butter croissants of course or take a gourmet break with a chocolate cake, brand Valhrona. A little later we can even come for a drink. With so many good proposals, we are rushing to do it but don't worry, even if there is a line, the service is both fast and efficient.

MERCADO NUESTRA SEÑORA DE AFRICA

Market

You can buy fruits and vegetables, fish, meat and flowers at the market dedicated to Our Lady of Africa, located on Calle San Sebastián, across from the TEA Museum. This enclosed two-story market, which is a large interior courtyard lined with arcades housing the stalls, does not have the liveliness of an African market, but neither is it completely European. This discreet exoticism justifies the visit. Inside and around, you will find many tapas bars.

A pastry recommended to enjoy the huevos of santos in particular. But it is only one of the many pastries (40 on the whole and regularly renewed). Why not try the "Chef of Paris", with the custard caramel, with walnuts and black cherries. Side ice creams, you will find there also the version of the famous cake bienmesabe.

It is open every day during the week, but Saturday is a special day as many vendors come from all over the island to offer their products. It also hosts a traditional market four times a month (information on the exact dates can be obtained from the tourist office).

Since 1968, the sweet tooths of Santa Cruz go there to indulge their addiction. Behind a fortunately preserved facade, evoking the old past of drugstore known by this place, it is a decoration of candy store which is used as case to the various proposed sweets: tarts, often with chocolate, salted and sweetened pancakes, numerous cookies and pastries.
