DUBAI TAXIS

Taxi and VTC
5/5
1 review

Cream with red roof for the normal cabs, cream with pink roof for the Ladies Taxis, they are everywhere, at any time, with a meter. The drivers all speak English. Before boarding, make sure the driver knows your destination, or be prepared to give clear directions otherwise it's not always easy, as they don't have on-board GPS. To make a reservation, you can call or download the Shail DTC Smart App, which also allows you to book and know in advance the price of the trip and the travel time.

CAREEM BIKE

Getting around by bike

In many parts of the city, self-service bicycles are becoming increasingly popular. Once you've downloaded the app, a few clicks later you'll be able to get on your electric bike, which does include 3 gears. Helmets are not mandatory, but highly recommended. Be careful, though, as it's hard to get from one neighborhood to another, and the city was designed more for 4-wheelers than for 2. As soon as the heat arrives, pedaling is a lot less fun. All the same, it's a pleasure to discover Dubai in a different way.

E-TROTINETTE CAREEM

Scooter

Scootering in Dubai seems an anachronism, as you'd rather explore the city in a large 4X4 or sports car than on a "scooter"! And yet, several areas are being developed to allow them in the Al Rigga, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai Internet City, Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid boulevard districts around the Burj Khalifa. If you're over 14 and have a charged cell phone with wi-fi, you can ride on the sidewalks in authorized areas, following the GPS. Helmets are compulsory.

AIR FRANCE-KLM

Airline and services

12 AF flights per week serve Dubai. Day and night flights allow you to reach Dubai, unless you have a stopover in Amsterdam. For those who do not live in Paris, it is an advantage to use the French airline, because the Air France network allows you to connect provincial cities to the capital without the headache of missed connections and without having to collect your luggage during the transfer. The flight time is about 6h30. Another advantage is that the flight from Paris at lunchtime means that you won't arrive in Dubai too late in the evening.

AÉROPORT INTERNATIONAL AL AÏN

Airline and services

A 4 km long runway. The airport is currently served by only three airlines, with flights to India and Pakistan. It has restaurants and cafes, ATMs, a medical centre and duty-free. There is no car rental, but the agencies in town can deliver a vehicle to the airport. This site has taken on a special significance since the creation of a specialised aeronautical equipment and research area in 2011.

AÉROPORT INTERNATIONAL DE SHARJAH

Airport and passenger services

Regional aviation history was written not far from here, on the runway laid out by the British in the 1930s, a chronicle perpetuated by the Mahatta Museum in Estiqlal Street. The Handley Page HP42 biplane, Imperial Airways flight IE184 London-Karachi landed in Sharjah on October 7, 1932 after six days of hazardous navigation from England. Today, the airport is a small hub whose transcontinental ambitions are embodied by Air Arabia.

STATION DE BUS DE JUBAIL

Bus and coach

If you don't want to take a taxi, this is the other way to get back to Dubai. Jubail is one of Sharjah's bus stations and the 102 is the line to take. While the buses are all air-conditioned, comfortable and modern, it's the traffic jams that can turn this trip into hell. We recommend that you avoid (in the Sharjah Dubai direction) leaving the city before 10am and in the opposite direction from 4pm. The multiple stops turn the 15 km between the two cities into a two-hour journey. It is better to be warned.

GARE ROUTIÈRE AL-AÏN

Bus and coach

Of the two options, we recommend taking the bus to Abu Dhabi from the Al Nahyan bus station. Tickets cannot be purchased in advance or on the bus, but at the bus station. All buses are modern, comfortable and have air conditioning. It is another way to discover the country. Once you arrive in Al Ain, you can still travel by bus. For senior citizens and people with disabilities, a 50% discount card is offered free of charge at the customer satisfaction centers.

Since 2017, there are nearly 3,000 cars. Hybrid cars currently account for 50% of the fleet. All cars are equipped with a meter and you won't be ripped off. You can pay both in cash and by credit card. However, they don't have onboard GPS so you have to know your route or be able to guide them.

GARE ROUTIÈRE INTERCITY

Bus and coach

It's a bit long, as the E100 bus takes nearly two hours and stops at four points between Satwa (in Dubai) and the bus station in central Abu Dhabi. The 101 bus leaves from Ibn Battuta Metro Station in Dubai, stopping at four stops and taking 90 minutes to reach Abu Dhabi. The service is reliable and regular on these comfortable, modern, air-conditioned buses. A friendly and different journey shoulder to shoulder with employees and migrant workers. The first few lines are reserved for women and children.
