Regional aviation history was written not far from here, on the runway laid out by the British in the 1930s, a chronicle perpetuated by the Mahatta Museum in Estiqlal Street. The Handley Page HP42 biplane, Imperial Airways flight IE184 London-Karachi landed in Sharjah on October 7, 1932 after six days of hazardous navigation from England. Today, the airport is a small hub whose transcontinental ambitions are embodied by Air Arabia.
