GAZEBO RESTAURANT

Indian restaurant €€

Opened in 2000, this is a restaurant of awadhi cuisine, a cuisine originating from Awadh, a region of North India. The bawarchis (chefs) and rakabdars (gourmet cooks) of Awadh have invented the dum pukht style of cooking or the art of cooking on a very low flame. They prepare exquisite dishes of bicentennial recipes. The setting is simple, but it is a feast. Several restaurants of the same brand in the city. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus, with kebabs, kormas and biryanis for example. Good background music. A real trip.

AL BAREED CAFE

Cafeteria €€

This small café is part of the beautiful Al Bait boutique hotel located just behind it. This superb café is located in the old post office of the district and offers a magnificent terrace which benefits from the shade of a magnificent jujube tree (locally called sidr), and just in front of the majilis of the municipality. Filter coffee, Turkish coffee, or just espresso with a sweet... The ice creams are also delicious... everything is there to be in the best possible mood before starting a visit in the historical heart of Sharjah

AL-ARSAH PUBLIC COFFEE SHOP

Cafeteria

Very nice and above all very traditional, this café is located in the heart of one of the oldest souks of the city. A few tables and benches, old photos of Sharjah before the oil era and the country's rulers. It's the opportunity to immerse yourself in the oriental atmosphere among people playing cards or dominoes. After some visits and shopping, here is a break with guaranteed authenticity. If you want a black tea, ask for the Sulaimani.

The mysterious alignment of Wadi Asimah

About fifty kilometers south of the capital, a remote wadi shelters one of the most striking archaeological enigmas of the Gulf, the alignment of Asimah (2100-2000 B.C.). Excavated in the early 1970s by Beatrice de Cardi, an officer of the Order of the British Empire described by the BBC as a "real Indiana Jones", the site is now being studied by the French Archaeological Mission. As we will learn when visiting the national museum in town, the alignment of stones, sometimes dark, sometimes light, is extended by a curious apsidal shape (GPS coordinates N 25°24 13 10", E 56°08 55 40"). In the vicinity, an Iron Age site was also identified as well as numerous tombs. The journey through this valley in the vicinity of Masafi, which is possible without an all-terrain vehicle, gives the opportunity to discover a succession of charming wadis. Count 26 km on E18 from the airport roundabout, go east towards Al Ghail at 7.5 km, left at Y, count about 5 km of track, right at Y, go up Wadi Al-Fara and Wadi Mawrid to reach Asimah.

CASA SAMAK

Seafood Restaurant €€

The hotel is in the back and the sea in the front, so we're in the right place in the right way. In truth, the local chronicle slips you the name of Al Dente, the Coral's Italian table, as the Sharjian end of the line, but we have a soft spot for this marine outdoor, a bit old-fashioned, but the sea air flatters our nostrils, the fish doesn't fare too badly if you've been careful to avoid audacity in sauce, but the barbecued fish and seafood or tempuras are delicious. We miss a little sauvignon blanc and everything is depopulated.

MAJLIS AL-MIDFA

The building is easily recognizable thanks to the unusual shape of its wind tower: Round! This house is a beautiful example of traditional local architecture and was the property of the founder of the first newspaper in the country: Ibrahim Al Midfa. This intellectual "made" majilis to discuss literature, poetry and politics. It has since been renovated and is part of the Al Bait Hotel. You can now enjoy Arabian and Turkish coffee, delicious fruit juices, but also an assortment of home-made sweets at tea time. A great gourmet break!

Designed and owned by Sharjah's Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi since 2015, Ratios coffee is thought of as a workshop that highlights the art of roasting with meticulously selected and organic beans. The interior decor reflects an urban, casual, zen and very contemporary style at the same time. In addition to delicious coffees, UAE made chocolates and a great selection of teas, they serve great cookies and brownies. The cosmopolitan staff is charming, as is the small terrace. THE RESTAURANT

World cuisine restaurant €€€

Inside the Al Bait Hotel, in the heart of Sharjah's historic centre, is this beautiful restaurant that embraces a small patio. The decoration is subtle, with numerous clerestories in the geometric shapes of the moucharabieh, giving the restaurant a local touch and a timeless elegance. In a hushed atmosphere, the cuisine is contemporary and revisits oriental dishes, but also those of the Far East and elsewhere. Camel milk ice cream. An elegant and refined address for a lunch break between two museums.
