Read moreThe Royal Opera is Sweden's national opera and ballet theatre, founded by Gustav III in 1773. Located on the waterfront, just opposite the Royal Castle, the Royal Opera House was built between 1892 and 1899 in Renaissance style, after the original building was destroyed. Once past the marble entrance hall, one can see the large murals by the national artist Carl Larsson. Although opera and ballet are unfortunately not performed in the summer, the season is in full swing in autumn, winter and spring

The rest of the time, you can enjoy other shows or jazz, classical or contemporary concerts. The acoustics are sublime and, for a few years, the Finnish conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali has been officiating there... The program changes often, so the best thing to do is to go there or consult the site for information.
