Limassol, also known as Lemessos, is Cyprus' main port and boasts the island's largest seaside resort. Built between the two ancient towns of Amathounta and Kourion and surrounded by the wine-growing villages of Troodos, Limassol has been known to traders for its wine and sugar cane since the Middle Ages. Today, with a population of 135,000, it is Cyprus' second largest city and a major center of commerce and tourism. The locals are renowned for their lively character and the vacation atmosphere in the city is absolutely carefree, which explains why numerous festivals and carnivals take place every year during the summer months. Limassol's stores offer products ranging from the ultra-modern to the traditional and artisanal. St Andrews Street, close to the promenade, offers the best souvenirs in town. Other sights include Limassol Castle, near the old port, where Richard the Lionheart is said to have married Queen Berengaria of Navarre in 1911 and crowned her Queen of England. If you're interested in history, why not visit the Folk Art Museum or the Archaeological Museum, both of which feature interesting displays of pottery and tombstones among their many exhibits. This bus station (Lefkoşa Otobüs Terminali) is the largest in Northern Cyprus. Numerous connections with Kyrenia (Girne) and also with Famagusta (Gazimağusa), Morphou (Güzelyurt) and Lefka (Lefke). Transport by dolmuş (minibus) provided by private companies. Tickets can be purchased at the kiosks of the various companies. And local cabs. Otherwise, the small bus station at İtimat (450 m east of the Kyrenia gate) serves Famagusta only.

This car rental company was established in 1946 with a location in the center of Nicosia. ASTRA (acronym for A Service ToRememberAlways) has succeeded in building up a fleet of over 1,250 vehicles, making it one of the largest car rental companies on the small island of Cyprus. The company is renowned for its professionalism and high standards of vehicle maintenance. The team is partly French-speaking. This so-called "international" airport (Ercan Uluslararası Havalimanı) is the only one in the northern part of Cyprus. Created in 1975, it is located on a former British World War II base and bears the name of Turkish officer Fehmi Ercan (1935-1974), who was killed during the invasion. It is well equipped, but its status as an "international" airport is not recognized: all aircraft must transit through Turkey. There are no flights to France. Inhabitants of the northern zone tend to use the Larnaka airport to reach Europe.

This crossing point (Metehan Kapısı, Οδόφραγμα Αγιου Δομετιου/Odofragma Agiou Dometiou, Agios Dometios-Metehan Crossing Point) is the most important between south and north in terms of traffic, and the wait is sometimes long. Also known as Kermya/Kermia, it is located in the divided municipality of Agios Dometios, the northern part of which is called Metehan or Aydemet. This crossing point (Yeşilırmak Sınır Kapısı, Σημείο Διέλευσης Κάτω Πύργου-Λιμνίτη/Simio Dielefsis Kato Pyrgou-Limniti, Kato Pyrgos-Limnitis Crossing Point) connects the villages of Limnitis (Λιμνίτης, Yeşilırmak), in the northern zone, and Kato Pyrgos (Κάτω Πύργος), in the southern zone, across the buffer zone, 800 m wide here. It is reserved for vehicles only. Some rental companies in the southern zone allow passage with insurance from €15/seven days.

Local fishermen offer excursions to fish with them. Rates for 6 people with three possible formulas: 400 € for four at sea early in the morning (departure 4 h), € 350 the half day (departure 9 h 30) and € 500 the full day.

Founded in 1978, this Nicosia-North car rental company is renowned for its professionalism. And since most rental companies in Cyprus-Sud won't let you pass the buffer line, it can be very useful to you. It has a fleet of around 400 vehicles with automatic gearboxes, but none with electric motors or 4x4s. Please note that prices on the website are quoted in sterling, not Turkish lira. The company is also present in Kyrenia and at Ercan airport.

This crossing point (Astromerit-Bostancı Sınır Kapısı, Σημείο Διέλευσης Αστρομερίτη-Ζωδιάς/Simio Dielefsis Astromeriti-Zodias, Astromeritis-Zodhia Crossing Point) links the villages of Zodia (Ζώδεια, Bostancı), in the northern zone, and Astromeritis (Αστρομερίτης), in the southern zone, across the buffer zone, 2 km wide here. It is reserved for vehicles only. Some rental companies in the southern zone allow passage with insurance from €15/seven days.

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a private organization, independent of government, which promotes the interests of Cypriot entrepreneurs. It is financed by membership fees and offers a range of services. The CCCI represents entrepreneurs before government and parliament, conveying their positions on issues of concern to them. It also participates in committees and tripartite bodies to ensure that the voice of the business community is heard. The CCCI website features a directory of members, classified by city and business activity. The main cities listed are Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta. Business activities cover a wide range, from import-export to manufacturing and services.

It's mathematics. Knowing that the Turkish national airline connects Paris (like most European capitals) to Istanbul on a daily basis and that Istanbul has daily connections to Cyprus, this is an option. Nevertheless, these are not just any kind of flights as they will take you to Ercan airport, in the Turkish Cypriot part of the island, which is not recognized by the international community (except Turkey). That's why you won't find direct flights to this airport, except from Istanbul.

Impossible not to mention her. Not because it is Europe's first "low-cost" airline that links Basel-Mulhouse airport to Larnaca airport during the season, but also because its founder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou,is a British entrepreneur of Cypriot origin. All the more reason to take care of this destination! Currently, the company offers at least two flights a week in season, Tuesday and Saturday, with very low fares, as usual, if you are able to book your ticket as soon as possible .

Since 2024, Estonian company Bolt has been offering its electric scooters (Ηλεκτρικά Σκούτερ/Ilektrika Skouter, Electric Scooter) on a self-service basis throughout Nicosia-South. Operating in 45 countries, it announces here that it is introducing 1,600 "Bolt 6" models. To use these, download the "Bolt" app on your smartphone from Google Play or Apple Store, then scan the QR code on the scooter. Vehicles can be picked up and dropped off at the points indicated on the app's map.

Nicosia-Sud has more than twenty companies. Here are three reliable ones: Cabcy (+357 22 26 98 06), Taxi Cab (+357 96 68 27 45) and Bolt (+357 22 31 30 61). The vehicles are topped by a TAXI or ΤΑΞΙ sign. Above are the official rates for 2024 (updated on the web page of the Hermes consortium, which manages Larnaka and Paphos airports). Some airlines charge higher fares. Night fares apply between 8.30pm and 6am and on public holidays.

In the northern part of Cyprus, pricing is unclear and most cabs have neither taximeters nor hour meters. The vehicles are topped by a "TAKSI" sign. Here are three fairly reliable Nicosia-North companies: Lefkoşa Taksi Durağı (+90 533 875 09 55), Lefkoşa Taksi (+90 533 831 44 43) and Lefkoşa Hastene Taksi (+90 533 875 09 55). For longer distances in the northern part of the region, shared cabs are available at lower fares than those offered by conventional companies.

The Cypriot airline offers year-round flights from France, Switzerland and Belgium to the Cypriot airport of Larnaka: from Paris-Roissy (two flights a week), Basel-Mulhouse (two-three flights a week, year-round), Zurich (two-three flights a week), Brussels-National (two-three flights a week) and Nice (twice a week). Cyprus Airways had gone bankrupt in 2015 and resumed operations in 2017. Its four aircraft operate mainly from Larnaka airport.

Built in 1991, this port (Girne Yeni Liman Yolu) welcomes ships linking the ports of Taşucu and Mersin, Turkey. The companies Akgünler Denizcilik (akgunlerdenizcilik.com) and Filo Denizcilik (filodenizcilik.net) provide ferry and mixed (passenger and freight) crossings. To Taşucu: year-round connections, duration 2h/2h30, fare €28/48 per person. To Mersin: seasonal connections, approx. 4h duration, fares on websites. You can also bring your own car or camper van.

This Cypriot tourism agency organizes holidays for groups and individuals, as well as business trips (meetings, motivation courses, conferences...). On request, it can take care of airport pick-up, transportation, car rental, accommodation (hotels, villas...), tours and activities. It offers all-inclusive and/or tailor-made holidays. Its preferred area is the south: in the Troodos and around Nicosia, Limassol, Agia Napa, Larnaka, Paphos and Polis.

This only two-wheel and quad agency wants to seduce young Scandinavian customers with its name that means «klaxonner and fast» in Swedish. However, its rates are among the highest among the staff at Agia Napa. But here's the security level, the German Automobile Association (ADAC) investigators say it's the best of the city. And this, with or without the boss's smile, doesn't have a price. 

Golf Around the World is, as its name suggests, specialised in holidays that combine golf and relaxation. They provide "clubs in hand" trips. The agency provides you with a plane ticket, a comfortable or luxurious hotel, ensures the shuttle between the hotel and the course when necessary, reserves the green fees... All you have to do is select your clubs, pack your bag and set off for the world's most beautiful golf courses.

This public bus company connects the major cities of the southern part of the island. From Limassol: 23 connections/day (17 at weekends) and 1h45 journey time with Nicosia; 16/day (11 at weekends) and 1h30 journey time with Larnaka; 17/day (10 at weekends) and 1h15 journey time with Paphos; none with Agia Napa (you have to change at Larnaka). In Limassol, buses leave from the commercial port (Νέο Λιμάνι/Neo Limani, New Port), which is served by city bus route^no. 30. Buses to Nicosia and Larnaka make several stops along the waterfront.

This crossing point (Derinya Sınır Kapısı, Σημείο Διέλευσης Δερύνεια/Simio Dielefsis Derynia, Deryneia Crossing Point) connects the abandoned village of Kato Derynia (Κάτω Δερύνεια, Aşağı Derinya), in the northern zone, to the town of Derynia (Δερύνεια, Derinya), in the southern zone, through the "green zone", here 400 m wide. Open to pedestrians and motorists. Some car rental companies in the southern zone allow passage with insurance from €15/seven days.

This bus station (Gazimağusa Otobüs Terminali) is located at the main traffic circle, near the Rivettina/Akkule bastion. It is linked to Nicosia-Nord and Kyrenia/Girne, to Ercan airport with the Kibhas company (kibhas.org) and to the village of Gialousa/Yeni Erenköy (Karpas peninsula). For the archaeological site of Salamis in Cyprus, take a dolmuş to Gialousa/Yeni Erenköy and ask the driver to stop at "Salamis Harabeleri".

This crossing point (Akyar Sınır Kapısı, Σημείο Διέλευσης Στροβίλια/Simio Dielefsis Strovilia, Strovilia Crossing Point) links Famagusta to the British territory of Dhekelia, through the "green zone" (3.2 km) that includes the abandoned village of Strovilia (Στροβίλια, Akyar) and the British garrison of Agios Nikolaos. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Some car rental companies in the southern zone allow passage with insurance from €15/seven days.

This commercial port (Gazimağusa Limanı, Λιμάνι της Αμμοχώστου/Limani tis Ammochostou) is linked by ferry to the Turkish port of Mersin. The Akgünler Denizcilik company (akgunlerdenizcilik.com) operates around three routes a week, and the 9-hour journey is overnight. Reputed to be the best in Cyprus in the Middle Ages, the port was redeveloped by the British in 1904, notably with the creation of a breakwater jutting out into the sea. Since 1974, as a result of the embargo, it has been used mainly for the exchange of goods with Turkey.

The Irish low-cost airline offers flights from France and Belgium to Cyprus' Paphos airport: from Paris-Beauvais (twice weekly, year-round), Brussels-Charleroi(twice weekly, year-round), Bordeaux (twice weekly, year-round), Marseille (twice weekly, April to October) and Toulouse (twice weekly, March to October). Ryanair has made Paphos airport its main base in Cyprus, with four aircraft operating here at all times.

Founded in 2015 by Russian Tatiana Mirovshchikova, this agency was awarded the prize for the best incoming travel agency in Cyprus in 2022 and 2023 by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). In the southern part of the island, it offers a wide range of tailor-made activities, specializing in business travel (meetings, motivational courses, conferences, etc.) with an emphasis on sustainable tourism. Its catalog includes, for example, a six-day stay (without plane) with a French-speaking guide for €500.

This German-Cypriot tourism agency specializes in cycling. It rents out French Lapierre mountain bikes and German Canyon racing bikes (three-day minimum). It organizes all-inclusive tours with airport pick-up (Paphos or Larnaka), bike rental, hotels, restaurants, cycling guide and assistance vehicle. And also: day guide, insurance and repair workshop. Aspire Cycling has mapped out the "L'Étape Cyprus" circuit in collaboration with the Tour de France company.

This self-service bicycle system was set up in Nicosia-South in 2019 by the German company Nextbike-Tier. It consists of 80 stations and 600 grey bicycles with advertising panels, distributed between the old town and its suburbs. To take advantage of it, you need to download the "Nextbike by TIER" app on your smartphone from Google Play or App Store. It's pretty easy to use. However, many stations are empty, even out of season. Nextbike is also available in other major cities in the South.

This bike store rents both classic (racing bikes and mountain bikes) and electric (mountain bikes and city bikes) bikes. The range consists almost exclusively of cycles by the Italian brand Bianchi, with which Fausto Coppi and Marco Pantani made their name. Rentals are made on site or by delivery throughout Nicosia-South. It is accompanied by a telephone assistance service for the southern part (in theory, it is forbidden to cross into North Cyprus with a rental bike). Polys Bikes also has a store in Limassol.

The country's main bus station, it is named after the Solomos Square on which it stands: Πλατεία Σολωμού/Platia Solomou, Solomou Square. Cyprus Public Transport operates buses here for the southern part of the Nicosia district. Intercity Buses operates services to Larnaka, Agia Napa, Limassol and Paphos. This crossing point (Ledra Palace Kapısı, Οδοφράγματος Λήδρα Πάλας/Odofragmatos Lidra Palas, Ledra Palace Crossing) was the first to be opened, in 2003, after twenty-nine years of separation between North and South. It adjoins the former Ledra Palace Hotel, which serves as a barracks for peacekeepers. Less used since the opening of Lokmacı/Ledra Street, this crossing remains interesting with the presence of numerous institutions nearby, in the buffer zone.
