Practical information : Going out Taiwan
Timetable
The city's clubs and discotheques are usually open from 10pm to 4am, Wednesday to Saturday.
Budget & Tips
Entrance to Taipei's clubs costs between NT$500 and NT$1,000 (usually with one or two free drinks). Lady's Nights (free drinks and entry) are common on Wednesday nights.
To be booked
To get a table in one of the city's clubs, you'll have to pay a fixed and often high price (between NT$10,000 and NT$15,000 depending on the standing).
Night transport
With the Taipei metro closing at midnight, cabs or private drivers remain the easiest option for getting around late at night.
Age restrictions
You have to be 18 to drink and enter clubs, and it's not uncommon for bouncers to check your ID, even if you're 45.
What's very local
There's no particular dress code for entering clubs, but avoiding sandals or shorts is common sense. The Taiwanese like to dress up for such occasions.
Smokers
While smoking is banned in public places, clubs are exempt from the rule and are therefore almost all smoking areas.
Tourist traps
In the most touristy areas, touts try to lure the customer into clubs and bars that are not very well known. To be avoided.
