The Peacock Guesthouse has undergone a major renovation in recent years, making it a very attractive place to stay. The carved wooden building dates back to the ^15th century: the 8 charming rooms are arranged around a small courtyard where breakfast is served. As with all traditional houses, space is limited, rooms are small and ceilings are particularly low. But the decor is well up to scratch, and the overall ambience is just right. The café offers a good selection of delicacies.

Favourite of the category! This superb Newar building belongs to Himalayan Encounters, a group that organizes rafting descents. The view of the Himalayas, the cosy atmosphere and the neat wooden décor add to the smiling and friendly team. The eleven rooms spread over three floors share small slate bathrooms. From some rooms, you only need to push the shutters down to admire, from your bed, the great Himalayan range. The food is not to be missed. The hotel has an annex on the same square.

This hotel located north of Thamel consists of two buildings built around a pleasant garden. Do not hesitate to ask to see the rooms before choosing. The size, sunshine and layout of the 36 rooms vary (some have a balcony with a view of the valley while others overlook the garden) and the prices that come with it. Nevertheless, we like the slightly outdated decoration of the place and the kindness of the staff.

Here's an affordable address with character, in a traditional Newar house. There are only two en-suite rooms: a double with a terrace and a more spacious suite with no exterior, both of which are well-equipped (but not air-conditioned). No breakfast here, but there are plenty of places around the corner in old Patan to eat at any time.

This 4-star hotel is housed in a building with a neoclassical façade that stands out a little in the landscape. The interior is more Newari, with bricks everywhere. Rooms are spacious and well-equipped, in a classic, somewhat neutral Nepalese style. The air-conditioned rooms all have en-suite bathrooms with hot water. They are furnished simply and locally. You'll appreciate all the services of a hotel here, especially the restaurant, which boasts a terrace overlooking the lake. Warm welcome and family management, good breakfast, tasty and affordable dishes.

This small, affordable hotel, ideally located in Lakeside, hides a magnificent small swimming pool in a lush garden where the restaurant's tables are also set. The interiors are magnificent, the exteriors relaxing. Its other major asset: a terrace with a sublime view of the lake and forest. The less expensive rooms are really comfortable, and only the executive suites have a private terrace overlooking the lake. The hotel is really pleasant, the staff friendly, the food delicious, an excellent address.

This is the best budget hotel in Bandipur, just a stone's throw from the center. The rooms are really cosy for the price, with pretty floors, soft beds and a ceiling fan, which is very pleasant. Cleanliness is impeccable, and each room has its own individual bathroom. Simply furnished and decorated, this is a pleasant hotel with a warm family welcome. The restaurant serves delicious local cuisine... It's a great place to stop off in this village.

This lodge by Barahi, a local luxury hotel chain, is a great place to stay in Sarangkot while admiring the Himalayan Annapurna range at sunrise or sunset. With just 30 rooms, the hotel has opted for noble natural materials (wood, stone, slate) for its interiors, which are very successful: arty, designer and soothing, with panelled ceilings. The infinity pool facing the mountains is the centerpiece. You can also enjoy breakfast or dinner here at dusk.

It offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. The rooms are good and the restaurant offers good quality Nepali and Asian dishes. The welcome is warm, which favours a good atmosphere among the guests. It is a good starting point for walks around Dhulikel.

This is a very pleasant and welcoming lodge on the banks of the East Rapter River, at the westernmost point of the park, in Megauhli. Surrounded by vegetation, it boasts a superb swimming pool. The small, comfortable cottages are designed using natural materials. The staff are friendly. The guides' passion is infectious during the activities: jeep safaris, walking safaris, canoeing on the river... On certain evenings, Tharu villagers come to sing around the fire.

This lodge created in 1997 is run by a Nepalese and a Frenchman. Located not far from the entrance of Bardia National Park, in the village of Bethani (Taekurdwara), it was designed in Tharu style and has twelve double rooms with private bathroom. A bar and a restaurant are located at the top of the complex. For a nice stopover or a longer stay, this is a good solution.

Very friendly welcome at this address located on Durbar Square. If your budget allows it, opt for a room with private bathroom, more spacious because the other bathrooms are really small. Some of them offer a plunging view on the temples, especially the corner rooms. Out of sight, you will be able to contemplate the ceremonies of pūjā morning. On the ground floor, the corner café offers good breakfasts and very correct dishes. The guesthouse also has a quieter annex to the west of Durbar.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Thamel, here is an establishment that offers rooms - some more or less faded - with excellent value for money. Calm, light and bathtub are the characteristics of the majority of the rooms. The very nice view from the large rooftop terrace and especially the kindness of the staff should make you want to come back to Kathmandu during your stay in Nepal. Try to ask for a room with a balcony to enjoy the coolness of the night. An excellent choice in this price category.

This is a superbly charming resort hotel, made up of several buildings all beautifully arranged around a large swimming pool, its greatest asset. All rooms are beautifully decorated, most have a terrace or balcony and all overlook the pool and adjoining garden. The Bay Leaf restaurant offers world cuisine, and the bar is welcoming and comfortable. Don't hesitate to treat yourself to a massage, bath or scrub. An excellent luxury address just a stone's throw from the hustle and bustle of Lakeside.

Located on Lakeside Street No. 3, the New Pokhara Lodge is a small, charming lakeside hotel in Pokhara. It offers three types of reasonably priced rooms: economy, standard and deluxe. The three-storey building offers a bathroom in every room and free Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy the beautiful sunny gardens with a variety of seasonal flowers and plants. The standard rooms have retained their pretty original floors and local style, while the renovated deluxe rooms have less charm. The restaurant, suspended over the indoor pool, serves excellent local specialties. The spa is truly incredible for the quality of its massages. We love the soothing ambience.

This is a luxury and trendy address in Nagarkot, as it is very Instagrammable with its outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Himalayas. The rooms are luxurious, with an elegant, contemporary Nepalese style where wood is the master, with terraces featuring hanging armchairs facing the mountains, beautifully crafted furniture, warm panelling on the walls, sumptuous carpets, bed runners and cushions, and designer bathrooms. The trendy bar with its inviting decor complements the restaurant with its panoramic terrace.

This new, small, brick-built Newar-style hotel is a good deal for tight budgets, as the rooms are at Nepalese prices, yet offer sufficient comfort to spend the night. It's conveniently located in Bhaktapur, a 10-minute walk from Durbar Square. Rooms are rather cramped, but feature private bathrooms with hot water, mosquito nets, fans and comfortable beds. The rooftop terrace is ideal for a frugal breakfast. A warm welcome from a young owner who has already been to France.

This is the best hotel for medium budgets. It's really elegant and charming, with magnificent Newar architecture and large bay windows overlooking the Himalayas. It offers spacious rooms with exposed stone walls, very bright and often with balconies. Bathrooms are particularly high-end. Its main asset is the huge terrace of its Café Dumont, a fine restaurant and an ideal place to admire the scenery.

A very pleasant little local address in Thamel, at really affordable prices for the services on offer. The double rooms are spacious, luxuriously equipped with king-size beds and a row of small cushions, air-conditioned and with a balcony. They are decorated in a refined Nepalese style, from the floorboards to the graphic wooden ceiling beams. The hotel offers excellent service, everything is impeccable, and the restaurant is pleasant with its espresso coffee and excellent breakfast served in its small outdoor garden.

A 30-minute paddle across the Pokhara Lake in a rowboat takes you to this resort, which is already quite a journey to reach. You disembark in the middle of an exceptionally biodiverse nature reserve. A handful of bungalows nestled into the hillside blend in with nature. Their panoramic windows offer breathtaking views of the calm waters and the peaks in the background. The hotel is superb in every detail.

This is one of Bhaktapur's most beautiful, yet affordable hotels. From the moment you enter the lobby, you'll be struck by its style, which combines the finesse of Newar architecture with contemporary Nepali decoration. The building features a garden with an Indian restaurant and a pool bar serving cocktails. The swimming pool is its immense centerpiece. The rooms are very contemporary, with exposed brick walls, attractive flooring and all the expected luxuries (coffee machine, air conditioning, minibar, TV, etc.). A very nice place.

This is the best budget hotel in Lumbini. Don't look here for sophisticated decoration, it's non-existent, but the comfort is optimal: comfortable beds, private bathroom and air conditioning (very important in a Terai often scorching hot), decent breakfast, what more could you ask for? We regret the pale neon garage light, but for the price, it's very reasonable. On the other hand, you can't really call it a garden: it's just a small courtyard with a plastic table for breakfast.

The Maya Garden Resort is set in greenery just a 5-minute walk from the Maya Devi Temple, and this is its main asset. This is Lumbini's best address, with 80 rooms featuring balconies (but aging bathrooms), while an extension is currently under construction. The hotel has a bar, a lovely swimming pool and a restaurant serving delicious food. It also offers guided tours of Lumbini's sacred sites.

Built in 1935, Rana's palace was completely renovated in 2016, transformed into a 7-storey building with 54 luxury rooms. The Victorian colonial architecture and the atmosphere of bygone times have been preserved, while offering the comfort of a modern boutique hotel. It is located in Hattisar, close to the restaurants and bars of Thamel. It remains the meeting place of personalities such as Jimmy Carter, the Carter Wing and the Carter Garden having been named in his honour.

The name "boutique" is a bit of an exaggeration, but it's amazing for its price range. The local furniture is cute, the beds cozy, and the Newar style can be seen in the architecture as well as in the cushion patterns. The exposed brickwork in some of the rooms adds character, as do the pretty wooden windows. They are well appointed, with en-suite bathrooms. Warm welcome from the staff.

Located in the heart of nature, yet still in Sauraha, Sapana Village Lodge offers a calm, wooded environment, with the staff of a luxury lodge. Here, the restaurant overlooks the plains and offers the spectacle of elephants (which can be fed). Several small bungalows with terraces house impeccable, luxurious, air-conditioned rooms. They are bright, modern and carefully colored with Indian fabrics and wall drawings. The hotel offers excursions by jeep, pirogue or walking safaris in the park, as well as massages at the spa.

The first attraction of the Dhulikel Lodge Resort is the panoramic view from the rooms, terraces and restaurant. The resort offers some forty comfortable rooms, half of which have balconies and views over the valley. But it also has a restaurant, the Himalayan Restaurant, which is surely one of the best addresses in the area: Nepalese, Indian and Western dishes, prepared with great care, excellent spice management and impeccable service. Sit out on the terrace, weather permitting.

With its doors and windows carved in the Newar style, its ceiling frescoes painted by a great Tibetan master and its hanging brick gardens, Hotel Vajra is one of the flagships of Nepalese architecture. It was built with local materials in the style of the Nepalese pagoda. Located on the foothills of Swayambhunath, it overlooks the Kathmandu valley. Every Tuesday, one of the best traditional dance shows in the city is performed in the hotel grounds. A must-see address where it's best to book.

The Gaun Ghar plays the card of the traditional Newar style and it works: mud walls, carved wooden windows... The house is organized around a central courtyard overlooking the rooms with balconies. Some of them overlook the street. The bathrooms in Bandipur slate combined with the metal washbasins make their effect. The whole is very successful and brand new. The hotel also has a restaurant whose cuisine is of very good quality and newar style. The price is a little high, but we like it very much anyway.

Situated in a peaceful corner of Thamel, it offers immediate proximity to the old town. This small, charming hotel is a good option. The budget rooms are very affordable, with tiny but clean bathrooms. The deluxe rooms are more spacious and air-conditioned, but still reasonably priced, while the classic deluxe rooms are much more chic. The garden and numerous balconies are very much appreciated. As are the unlimited hot water, the restaurant and the excellent welcome from the smiling staff. We highly recommend it.

This solar-powered, waste-management bush camp is made up of 12 safari tents in close proximity to nature, where you can go on walking safaris with guides in the jungle and along the rivers. You can also visit villages and meet the local population, for whom the camp has built three schools. The best time to visit the reserve is from October to March, when many migratory birds can be seen.

The association Solidarity France Nepal has made the villagers aware of the tourism that proved very motivated to highlight their culture while retaining their authenticity. The association also financed the construction of a Surya Guesthouse guesthouse in the village. Ghumarichok is a Cocoon culture village with a population of about 2 000. It offers a magnificent view of the valley and many temples are to be visited around. You can find guides that will help you discover the cultural and natural riches of the region. A tourism committee was created by a group of villagers, manages tourist activity and receives part of the benefits of the activity to improve the living conditions of the village (school, medical assistance…) through a fund of aid. The money given by the tourist is divided into three parts, the first part goes to the owner of the guesthouse, the second goes to the tourism committee and the last to the aid fund managed by the tourism committee. The Shivapuri National Park is 1 minutes'walk from the village, and it is also possible to reach Climbing National Park through the trekking road that passes through Ghumarichok.

A brick house, two floors and terraces: this is the domain of Babu and his wife Belku. They welcome you with their children in such a way that you accept the environment which has become quite urbanized. Langol is a small village at a few distances from Kirtipur. At Babu's, the rooms are bright, comfortable and clean, the decoration a little outdated. Belku prepares the meals which are delicious. They offer excursions to Kathmandu, canyoning trips and very accessible treks, Babu being a real source of information.

This resort is a place of incredible peace and tranquility, run by friendly Nepalese. Perched on a hill, it is set in farmland and forest. Organic farming is the rule here, and part of the produce feeds the hotel restaurant, the rest being purchased from local producers. The cuisine is predominantly vegetarian. Accommodation is in a dozen comfortable chalets, sleeping from 2 to 6 people. The Lasho Hall is a space that can accommodate yoga groups, among others.

If you are looking for a world of well-being and want to put the price tag on it, this superb establishment is for you.... A set of small red brick buildings are set in a park of about ten hectares, with swimming pools, restaurants and bars. The newar decoration is present everywhere with taste, the rooms are very large and particularly comfortable. The establishment offers a range of treatments for body and mind: spa, ayurvedic cures, meditation, massages, all managed by a competent and smiling staff. An exceptional address!

This hotel is the oldest in the city, but it is undeniably careful to stay in good condition. Close to the Janaki Mandir and the city centre markets, it is a large, modern building: a new block of 39 rooms and conference rooms was recently built, adding quality amenities. The rooms have a modern, rather international decoration. Relatively small, they are clean and have a pleasant bathroom. The restaurant offers an Indian and Western menu. The staff is attentive and professional.

A good option for very small budgets! Although the rooms are rudimentary (and the welcome in approximate English), the setting is not without charm if you are a seasoned traveller. The balconies give the rooms a little space and the small piece of garden wedged between the U-shaped building offers a relaxing place for exchange. A special mention to the owners who are particularly welcoming and helpful. In this price range (that of very tight budgets), an excellent value for money.
