This is Lumbini's best address, with 80 rooms featuring balconies (but aging bathrooms), while an extension is currently under construction. The hotel has a bar, a lovely swimming pool and a restaurant serving delicious food. It also offers guided tours of Lumbini's sacred sites.

Built in 1935, Rana's palace was completely renovated in 2016, transformed into a 7-storey building with 54 luxury rooms. The Victorian colonial architecture and the atmosphere of bygone times have been preserved, while offering the comfort of a modern boutique hotel. It is located in Hattisar, close to the restaurants and bars of Thamel. It remains the meeting place of personalities such as Jimmy Carter, the Carter Wing and the Carter Garden having been named in his honour.

This really is the best hostel in Patan, slightly more expensive than Kathmandu's youth hostels, but really superb and pleasant. Dormitory beds (air-conditioned) are isolated in cubicles by curtains, ultra-comfortable with locker, plug and lamp, and all spacious, with 4 or 8 beds, including one reserved for women. Ultra-comfortable, contemporary private rooms with balconies, plus a studio with fully-equipped kitchen designed as a triple or family room. The breakfast is delicious, and the atmosphere cosmopolitan and friendly.

This brand-new, dapper hotel, ideal for small budgets, is very close to Durbar Square and boasts a beautiful rooftop terrace. The name "boutique" is a bit of an exaggeration, but it's amazing for its price range. The local furniture is cute, the beds cozy, and the Newar style can be seen in the architecture as well as in the cushion patterns. The exposed brickwork in some of the rooms adds character, as do the pretty wooden windows. They are well appointed, with en-suite bathrooms. Warm welcome from the staff.

Located in the heart of nature, yet still in Sauraha, Sapana Village Lodge offers a calm, wooded environment, with the staff of a luxury lodge. Here, the restaurant overlooks the plains and offers the spectacle of elephants (which can be fed). Several small bungalows with terraces house impeccable, luxurious, air-conditioned rooms. They are bright, modern and carefully colored with Indian fabrics and wall drawings. The hotel offers excursions by jeep, pirogue or walking safaris in the park, as well as massages at the spa.

This Tibetan Buddhist monastery near Pharping, on the edge of the Hattiban forest (1 hour's drive from Kathmandu), offers a guest house where you can immerse yourself in the monks, pray and take part in their daily life. Some 200 monks live and study here. The price per night is expensive for Nepal, but the 23 rooms are extremely comfortable, the colors soothing and each has a private bathroom and balcony with a view. Delicious food.

This hostel is very well located in Thamel. A beautiful hostel, dapper, modern, super clean and very well decorated. Ideal for cosmopolitan youth visiting Kathmandu. The dormitory beds (some reserved for women) are partitioned into intimate cabins, each with a locker, lamp and socket. The double rooms are superb, in the same modern, colorful vein, with private bathrooms. The rooftop bar is incredible, with a terrace featuring a huge net to watch the sunset.

The first attraction of the Dhulikel Lodge Resort is the panoramic view from the rooms, terraces and restaurant. The resort offers some forty comfortable rooms, half of which have balconies and views over the valley. But it also has a restaurant, the Himalayan Restaurant, which is surely one of the best addresses in the area: Nepalese, Indian and Western dishes, prepared with great care, excellent spice management and impeccable service. Sit out on the terrace, weather permitting.

It was built with local materials in the style of the Nepalese pagoda. Located on the foothills of Swayambhunath, it overlooks the Kathmandu valley. Every Tuesday, one of the best traditional dance shows in the city is performed in the hotel grounds. A must-see address where it's best to book.

On the ground floor: Dining room, terrace and small vestibule in which an imposing buffet is decorated with photos of families. On the floor: 6 rooms, 4 with shared bathroom. Those with views are not more expensive and offer a nice panorama of the terrace cultures and the valley. A simple address, which has the typical charm of limbu architecture. On the kitchen side, nothing to report, you can taste your eyes closed.

The Gaun Ghar plays the card of the traditional Newar style and it works: mud walls, carved wooden windows... The house is organized around a central courtyard overlooking the rooms with balconies. Some of them overlook the street. The bathrooms in Bandipur slate combined with the metal washbasins make their effect. The whole is very successful and brand new. The hotel also has a restaurant whose cuisine is of very good quality and newar style. The price is a little high, but we like it very much anyway.

Mr. Naresh Dhaubanjar, the friendly owner of Shiva Guest House, recently opened this institution. In a quiet lane, just a few metres from the Durbar Square entrance, 15 rooms have been painted and carefully furnished. Three of them have balcony. Comfort and charm guaranteed!

The budget rooms are very affordable, with tiny but clean bathrooms. The deluxe rooms are more spacious and air-conditioned, but still reasonably priced, while the classic deluxe rooms are much more chic. The garden and numerous balconies are very much appreciated. As are the unlimited hot water, the restaurant and the excellent welcome from the smiling staff. We highly recommend it.

The main asset of this establishment located only 3 minutes walk from the heart of Thamel is its peaceful garden, where it is good to stop after a day wandering through the busy streets of Thamel. The rooms are spacious, with en suite bathroom, TV and wifi, but of varying quality. Ask to visit before making your choice and try to get one of the best. The staff is considerate. Of interest is the large dining room, which can be convenient if you come in a group.

Located away from the hustle and bustle of Thamel, this inn is divided into two wings: one, rather old and less recommendable, and the other, more modern. Prefer the rooms in this building, which are much brighter and more comfortable. Equipped with satellite TV and, for the more expensive ones, air conditioning, they offer basic comfort but do the job. The lush roof terrace with a view of Nagarun can be enjoyed at breakfast time.

This solar-powered, waste-management bush camp is made up of 12 safari tents in close proximity to nature, where you can go on walking safaris with guides in the jungle and along the rivers. You can also visit villages and meet the local population, for whom the camp has built three schools. The best time to visit the reserve is from October to March, when many migratory birds can be seen.

The association Solidarity France Nepal has made the villagers aware of the tourism that proved very motivated to highlight their culture while retaining their authenticity. The association also financed the construction of a Surya Guesthouse guesthouse in the village. Ghumarichok is a Cocoon culture village with a population of about 2 000. It offers a magnificent view of the valley and many temples are to be visited around. You can find guides that will help you discover the cultural and natural riches of the region. A tourism committee was created by a group of villagers, manages tourist activity and receives part of the benefits of the activity to improve the living conditions of the village (school, medical assistance…) through a fund of aid. The money given by the tourist is divided into three parts, the first part goes to the owner of the guesthouse, the second goes to the tourism committee and the last to the aid fund managed by the tourism committee. The Shivapuri National Park is 1 minutes'walk from the village, and it is also possible to reach Climbing National Park through the trekking road that passes through Ghumarichok.

A brick house, two floors and terraces: this is the domain of Babu and his wife Belku. They welcome you with their children in such a way that you accept the environment which has become quite urbanized. Langol is a small village at a few distances from Kirtipur. At Babu's, the rooms are bright, comfortable and clean, the decoration a little outdated. Belku prepares the meals which are delicious. They offer excursions to Kathmandu, canyoning trips and very accessible treks, Babu being a real source of information.

This resort is a place of incredible peace and tranquility, run by friendly Nepalese. Perched on a hill, it is set in farmland and forest. Organic farming is the rule here, and part of the produce feeds the hotel restaurant, the rest being purchased from local producers. The cuisine is predominantly vegetarian. Accommodation is in a dozen comfortable chalets, sleeping from 2 to 6 people. The Lasho Hall is a space that can accommodate yoga groups, among others.

If you are looking for a world of well-being and want to put the price tag on it, this superb establishment is for you.... A set of small red brick buildings are set in a park of about ten hectares, with swimming pools, restaurants and bars. The newar decoration is present everywhere with taste, the rooms are very large and particularly comfortable. The establishment offers a range of treatments for body and mind: spa, ayurvedic cures, meditation, massages, all managed by a competent and smiling staff. An exceptional address!

Kopan monastery near Bodnath is known for teaching Buddhism to Westerners. The first meditation course was held in 1971. Teachings lasting between 5 and 10 days are given throughout the year (see the calendar on their website). You can also come on a Buddhist retreat, provided you have already been initiated, but the monastery does not offer Vipassana retreats. You can also stay at the monastery during authorized periods, or simply visit during the day. Decent clothing is required, but admission is free.

This hotel is the oldest in the city, but it is undeniably careful to stay in good condition. Close to the Janaki Mandir and the city centre markets, it is a large, modern building: a new block of 39 rooms and conference rooms was recently built, adding quality amenities. The rooms have a modern, rather international decoration. Relatively small, they are clean and have a pleasant bathroom. The restaurant offers an Indian and Western menu. The staff is attentive and professional.

A good option for very small budgets! Although the rooms are rudimentary (and the welcome in approximate English), the setting is not without charm if you are a seasoned traveller. The balconies give the rooms a little space and the small piece of garden wedged between the U-shaped building offers a relaxing place for exchange. A special mention to the owners who are particularly welcoming and helpful. In this price range (that of very tight budgets), an excellent value for money.

Just a stone's throw from the Bodnath stupa, this small, recently-built hotel adjoining the Thrangu monastery offers absolute peace and quiet. It houses 21 spacious, well-equipped rooms (air-conditioning, TV, wi-fi, coffee machine...) all decorated in the Tibetan spirit, with a lot of art, they have a real cachet, just like the hotel. The atmosphere here is clearly Zen. Its best feature is the charming indoor pool, which is very relaxing after a day's walking in the city. At the entrance, the Lotus Gems Café is very pleasant.

The Sri Aurobindo Yoga Mandir is an association founded in 1993 by Swami Ramchandra Das, which today cares for over 220 underprivileged children, providing them with food, shelter and education. This institution, which includes accommodation, a farm and a handicraft workshop, makes its living by selling its products, welcoming foreign travellers and receiving donations. It is possible to stay here (in basic comfort), help out and practice yoga and meditation.

The Srinagar Hotel is perched above Tansen on a ridge called Batase Danda, which means "windy hill". The view is impressive over the mountains and the plains of the Terai. It has clean and comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms. This large white building has a cosy restaurant serving Nepali, Indian, Chinese and continental dishes. It is a quality address, but one that has to accept that it is relatively isolated, being only two kilometres from the city.

Just a short walk from the historic area of Bhaktapur, the Heritage Hotel occupies a beautiful Newar-style building. The hotel is quiet and restful, the reception is professional and smiling. The spacious and comfortable rooms are very well designed with windows, large beds and carefully carved wooden mirrors. The Tribal Bar, located a little bit apart from the hotel, offers local and international drinks, as well as a wine cellar. The hotel has a gourmet restaurant, the Kutumba, where you can also enjoy an excellent buffet breakfast.

The best budget hotel in Bardia, in this relatively inaccessible national park. The rooms are rudimentary in comfort, with mud walls and straw roofs, and are equipped with mosquito nets and fans, but with a private bathroom and hot water, which is much appreciated. We like the hotel's service, the good food, the beautiful lush garden and the guides' experience in tracking tigers and leopards. The location is perfect, on the edge of the forest, separated from the park by a beautiful river.
