JO COOL

Takeaway food

We sit down directly at the fisherman's, who has a store and serves freshly grilled fish, and especially a Tino Rossi salad of which we will not reveal the secret... but... quickly, go ahead! Known throughout the island and adored by travelers for his incredible kindness, our man also takes whoever wants on his pretty pirogue: to Cocos Island and Catherine Islet, for 8 people maximum and with a picnic. Much more than a dinner or an excursion, it is above all the occasion of an extraordinary human meeting!

MISTER CHU

Takeaway food

AKA Chu Fung Leung. LePetitFuté loves institutions, and this is one of them, firmly rooted in Chinatown since 1942 and proudly run by three generations of Chu family pastry chefs. It is frequented by the entire local Chinese-Mauritian community (but not only), who come here to stock up on Hakka cakes, moon cakes, wax cakes, peanut cookies, zongzi, etc., all names that evoke the unknown, travel, the delight of a sweet purchase in a store that has been refurbished but has retained its exotic charm. Let's take a break.

BLUE BAY SNACK

Takeaway food
4/5
3 reviews

With its success, the little take-away food shop, so well placed in front of the beach, has become a full-fledged snack bar with chairs, tables, umbrellas, a semblance of a sheltered terrace... all cheerfully painted in blue, yellow and red, and adjoined by a few tin stalls lined up in front of the football pitch (coconuts, juice, candied fruits, etc.). You can sip a cold drink and/or eat one of the local fast food classics: boiled mines, Creole-style white rice, chicken curry, upside-down bowl, etc.

CHEZ PHILIPPE

Takeaway food

Located at the beginning of the street, close to the river, here is a small hut with a few tables that makes roast chicken aficionados happy! To take away or to taste on the spot, the poultry, golden brown, is cooked and juicy. The service is simple and efficient, with a little chat and little waiting. We also stop there to have a drink or to buy/swallow a small homemade sandwich ("varied choice" as the sign says) before going to survey the streets of the capital. A nice place to stop if you are in a hurry or if you don't want to be hungry.

LES ALIZÉS

Takeaway food

All dressed in red, it's a gargote on the coastal road, known to the whole area and in front of which Christmas is simmering its pots. In a very small room slightly on a half level, one can taste the best dumplings from Trou d'Eau Douce and beyond, but also fried mines and other tasty popular Chinese dishes, or Mauritian dishes based on fresh products of the day. Drinks are at boutik price (= cheap Mauritian rate)and the service is nice as anything, in short here is a good plan as we love them!

MENGOZ SNACK

Takeaway food

At the crossroads, just in front of the covered market of Mont Lubin and close to the gas station, it is THE canteen of this part of the island, the one where the whole Rodrigues of the heights rushes. A "boutik" as we say here where only fresh, good, well cooked, tasty and copious food is served: fried mines, upside down bowls, snacks and daily dishes at low prices. On Fridays, Mirella prepares the typical Rodriguan dish based on pork curry, corn, brinjal and red beans. A nice and bright room where you can sit down and/or take away.

KIOSQUES DU QUARTIER DES SERRES

Takeaway food

In the same decorative, plant-based spirit as the adjoining La Terrasse restaurant, these 3 kiosks are the fast, cheap version of the Quartier des Serres. Fancy a fresh juice, a smoothie, a local street food snack or a sweet treat? This is the place to be when you don't have the time or inclination to grab a bite to eat, before or after your visit to the Château. You can order takeaway or sit at one of the high tables. Next door: La Corbeille grocery store and boutiques.

BLOND BOULETTE

Food truck

Tamarin beach, especially the sandbox just in front of the Veranda Hotel at the car park at the entrance to the bay, is home to one of the best dumpling vendors on the island. As always, the length of the tail acts as a cursor. At the same time, it underlines the taste quality of this Asian street food dish at an unbeatable price. Even if you're there, you'll be tempted by several flavours: meat, fish, vegetables, chicken... whether or not to be accompanied by mines or fried rice. A delight!

ARTISAN COFFEE

Takeaway food

This chain of cafés is omnipresent in Mauritius and particularly in Port Louis where it already has 8 branches. Its success is based on a vintage and warm decoration that makes you want to linger (gramophones, cement tiles, wood, metal, bricks, materials...), real good coffee prepared by a barista, a choice of fresh or iced drinks (latte, smoothie, detox cocktail...), homemade products to satisfy your sweet and sour cravings (macaroon, brownie, panini, wrap...), a good wifi connection and plugs. Efficient and in the air of time.

GARGOTES DE LA PLAGE

Takeaway food

In the town centre, on the edge of the bay, directly on the sand and under the filaos of the beach, several shops have taken over this little corner of seaside greenery and offer fresh juices, ice creams, waffles, croque-monsieur (toasted sandwiches) and quick dishes of local cuisine. Cheap, in the open air, the place is almost nicer than a restaurant when you don't really feel like eating, but just to nibble a bite before or after an excursion, or to take a break for a quick drink or snack. A few tables and chairs in the shade

JUS DE FRUITS FRAIS

Takeaway food

In the main pedestrian alley of the Caudan Waterfront, the one partially covered with umbrellas, it's impossible to miss the colorful stands selling fresh fruit juices. Mangoes, pineapples, oranges, bananas... it's hard to resist the freshness and creaminess of a fast-acting vitamin cure that smells of exoticism and pep! You can ask for a takeaway or take a break at one of the many outdoor tables and chairs set up for this purpose, from which you can watch the nonchalant ballet of strollers and the more hurried ballet of Port Louis workers.
