This adorable boutique created by the Frenchwoman Isabelle immediately delights the eyes with its cheerful colors and the originality of its offer. Signature of the house: painting on braided fibers. The majority of the articles are painted with the colors of the island and form as many paintings and scenes of life declined on wooden objects, bags and pouches in natural materials, round trays in fibers of vacoas to hang on the walls... Everything is handmade and composes a marvelous showcase of the best of Rodrigues' craftsmanship and creativity.

CARE-CO HANDICRAFT SHOP

Arts and crafts

This association works to integrate the disabled into society. They are trained in various manual trades, and in particular in handicrafts. In one room, about twenty young people make objects and jewels out of coconuts, in another room they make wooden furniture, natural handmade soaps, local handicrafts or they bottle the honey produced on the spot and allow the training of new beekeepers. After the visit, it is possible to buy articles which is the best way to support the association.

The small shop sells, for those who do not wish to go to the workshops, products made by the craftsmen of Care-Co Handicraft, an association dedicated to the training and integration of the handicapped in Rodrigues. Exotic jewels and objects made of coconuts (spoons, necklaces, earrings...) and one of the best honeys of Rodrigues, regularly awarded: Lacaz honey, a delight! You can also find some postcards, photo books, CDs of local music, etc.

ATELIER LES FRÈRES LÉOPOLD

The workshop occupies a house. At the front, a small room displays the products for sale, especially basketry: hats, baskets, handbags, kits... At the back, in the middle of piles of vacoas, aloe or vetiver leaves, craftsmen weave articles. Beforehand, the leaves have been sorted, then put to dry vertically in the sun for 3 days. The finishing touches are made by machine. The Léopold brothers, who speak Creole better than French, also make custom-made items.
