CHINA HOUSE

Chinese restaurant €€
4/5
1 review

The address to know on Georgetown if you want to have a good time. It's a long stretch of two shophouses back to back, linked by a pretty tree-lined inner courtyard. The entrance via Lebuh Pantai leads to the Kopi C. restaurant, serving a mix of Western and Malaysian dishes. Further on, an intimate bar awaits you with a fine wine and cocktail list. At the far end, on Lebuh Victoria, you'll find The Canteen bistro. You can also enjoy concerts, sometimes played at weekends, and exhibitions upstairs.

FOH SAN

Chinese restaurant

For almost 50 years, Foh San has been delighting Ipoh with its dim sum and filled buns in an enchanting setting. The tables are housed on two floors of a vast, wall-less colonial building, cooled by numerous ceiling fans. The waiter will give you a cardboard slip, which you must take with you before choosing your steamed ravioli. The ravioli are sold in baskets and shared between all the guests at the table. Despite the large number of tables, it's not unusual to queue up at weekends. A must try.

LITTLE PENANG KAFÉ - KLCC

Chinese restaurant
4/5
1 review

This restaurant specializes in authentic Nyonya (or Peranakan) cuisine. Classic dishes include assam laksa (noodles cooked in fish stock) and nasi lemak. On weekends, the chef prepares a delicious siamese lemak laksa. The excellent desserts may seem confusing to novices. The many mirrors on the wall make the place bright and give an impression of grandeur, despite the restaurant's modest size. Several of the brand's addresses in town.

Vietnamese restaurant €€

Set away from the hustle and bustle of the market, this restaurant is a discreet but essential institution in the Bukit Bintang district. It offers the great classics of Vietnamese cuisine, arranged in original ways by a respected chef. Freshness, authenticity and creativity are hard to find elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant is housed in a charming little yellow colonial house. You can also enjoy the terrace. A fine wine list completes the picture.

LONG BEACH CAFE

Malaysian restaurant

The name seems misleading, since it's not a café, but a food court. Open only in the evening, you take your place under the large shed with its corrugated iron roof. Once you've got your table number in your pocket, you can browse the bevy of food stalls frying, stir-frying and baking before your very eyes. From Malay mee goreng to Indian tandoori chicken, from popiah to king prawns, from Chinese soups to char kway teow, there's something for every taste and every budget. You place your order at the stand(s) of your choice, and the dish is brought to you when ready.

WONG AH WAH

Chinese restaurant

The real institution on Jalan Alor is this one, affectionately nicknamed WAW by the locals. The house specialty is chicken wings marinated in a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. And the wow effect is there. The chicken wings are juicy and moist, cooked to perfection. Despite the large number of tables set up on the street, you're likely to find yourself queuing if you get your baguette in at peak time (between 7.30pm and 10pm). But it's well worth the wait.

YUT KEE

Chinese restaurant

Opened in 1928, this restaurant specializing in Hainanese cuisine is one of the neighborhood's oldest institutions, and continues to grow in popularity. Beware, Yut Kee can easily become crowded at weekends and peak times! But even when there is a queue, don't be discouraged, as things move quickly and the service is friendly and efficient. Roasts and pork chops are the house specials, not to be missed. To round off your meal in style, we recommend the steamed kaya bread accompanied by a kopi.

HORNBILL RESTANT AND CAFE

Malaysian restaurant €€

Whether you're looking for a gourmet break during your visit to the ornithological park or simply looking for a peaceful place to relax, this restaurant nestled in the heart of the botanical gardens offers an oasis of freshness. The cuisine is simple but typical and good value for money. But it's above all the lovely terrace, from which you can watch the birds and, with a bit of luck, the monkeys, that attracts us here. Free parking is also available.

MOZA RESTAURANT

Malaysian restaurant €€

This is the restaurant of the Museum of Islamic Art, so it's perfect for a stopover before or after your visit. The fusion cuisine on offer draws its inspiration from various Muslim countries, with a predominance of Middle Eastern flavors: shawarma, moussaka, kefta, falafel are all on the menu. You'll be seduced by the modern, uncluttered decor, reflecting the Muslim style, as well as by the refreshing atmosphere, not to mention the quality service. And to top it all off, you can enjoy a wide range of coffees, from espresso to Arabic coffee.

ANNALAKSHMI

Vegetarian Restaurant €€

This is a restful restaurant, with an elegant, almost bourgeois setting, showcasing the know-how of Indian craftsmen. Finely carved chairs, family portraits decorated with garlands of fresh flowers (to honour the deceased). They serve the food of the Brahmins, the caste of priests and intellectuals! Therefore, the card is entirely vegetarian and alcohol is prohibited. The menu changes every day. Try lentil curry, coconut and vegetable curry and dessert kulfi (Indian ice cream). Proper dress required.

LOK LOK

Asian cuisine restaurant

The neon letters of this pocket restaurant can be spotted from afar... along with the crowds who come here at certain times to stock up on kebabs of all kinds. Very popular with the locals, the dining room, and especially the few tables on the terrace, fill up fast in the evenings. The chef works with prestidigitator-like speed to bring out a host of skewers cooked on wooden sticks: crab, tofu, oysters, vegetables or, more original, hundred-year-old or quail eggs. Most are steamed or fried. Nasi Lemak is also highly prized.

Japanese restaurant €€

In a quiet part of the new town, it's at least a 20-minute walk from Dutch Square. But it's well worth the effort, as this Japanese address is one of the city's finest restaurants. Private lounges, sushi bars, closed booths or traditional tables are just some of the ways you can share delicious Japanese specialties. The extensive menu revisits the great classics. All products are extremely fresh and offered at very reasonable prices. Service is friendly but a little slow.

WARONG NUSANTARA

This unassuming canteen is sure to delight fans of the local scene. In a small street lined with restaurants, just up the road from the Topspot Foodcourt, this establishment serves the great classics of Malaysian dining. Nasi goreng (fried rice), mee goreng (fried noodles), laksa sarawak, chicken... You'll find the same old plastic tables and chairs, and the same heterogeneous non-decor in a large, airy room. MUAR BAKRI LAKSA

Malaysian restaurant

It may not look like much at first glance, but it's at the top of all the city's top lists. The restaurant is one of Malaysia's 50 best laksas (every Malaysian restaurant serves laksa), one of the city's Top 7 best restaurants, and its reputation extends to the shores of Singapore. Here, the spicy, rather light broth simmers for a minimum of 3 hours. Chili pepper is added according to your tolerance, and if you ask for it "full spicy", you're likely to fall off your chair.

KEDAI KOPI KINABALU

Asian cuisine restaurant

This unpretentious restaurant, at least as far as the setting is concerned, brings together a few hawkers, the street traders who have settled here. Many locals consider it the best place in town to try Bornean laksa. You'll find it at the Sarawak Kuching Laksa stall, which prepares its broth by adding coconut milk. Noodles, shrimp and chicken are then plunged into the broth. A delicious dish. But you can also try ngau chap, a beef-based soup, another popular Kota Kinabalu dish.
