Read moreInaugurated in 1873 by soprano Ángela Peralta, the "Mexican Nightingale", this theater is an architectural gem initiated in 1871 under the aegis of architect Juan Mañón. Over the years, it has hosted zarzuelas, operettas, circuses and even boxing matches, before becoming a cinema. Its current Porfirian-style façade dates from 1915. Today, this historic venue hosts a variety of events: plays, dance performances, concerts, children's workshops, conferences and festivals such as the International Jazz and Blues and the Cervantino.

Read moreThis independent cultural center offers a varied selection of films and documentaries highlighting Mexican cinema. On the upper floor, you'll find a charming tearoom and a small restaurant with a terrace offering a magnificent view. The two cinemas, though small, are brimming with personality, with their burgundy wallpaper and antique leather armchairs. Check out the film schedules on their website, or go directly to the cinema. There's also a bar with board games on the second floor.

The music is varied, from jazz to electronic music. Be careful, these parties attract more and more people, if you arrive too late, they won't let you in for lack of space. There is also a bar and a good restaurant serving Spanish specialities.

The vintage atmosphere is very nice, and the programming is really great. You can see some blockbusters, but also independent Mexican films. If you're in the mood for a one-man show, check out the website for a list of events. There is also a restaurant and a bar on site, so you can relax before the show or debrief afterwards.

TEATRO ANGEL PERALTA
Read moreInaugurated in 1874 as the Teatro Rubio, the theatre functioned as such until 1940, when it was converted into a cinema until 1963; left abandoned, it was destroyed by a cyclone in 1975. It was not until 1992 that it was reopened, in keeping with the original design. On three levels, it can accommodate up to 1,366 people. It offers a fine theater program, which makes it the flagship of Sinaloense culture, as well as temporary art exhibitions and events related to the Festival Cultural Mazatlán.

This is really where it's at. The setting lends itself quite well to the concept of the place: skulls and bones on the walls and around the bar, a small stage with psychedelic motifs, Colette benches in fake velvet or leather, a very underground atmosphere... Foro Bizarro is really a UFO in the Mexico City nightlife. Resolutely alternative.

Reservations are recommended, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Not bad for a romantic evening with excellent music.
TEATRO DE LA CIUDAD
Read moreJust a few blocks from the Palacio de Bellas Artes, don't miss the façade of this small theatre. Its history is closely linked to that of the star, singer and actress Esperanza Iris (1884-1962), who gave the instructions for the construction of a theatre modelled on La Scala in Milan. It was inaugurated in 1918 and is still as majestic as ever. The place still hosts many concerts and recitals. Attending one of them is the best way to discover its magnificent interior.
TEATRO HIDALGO
Read moreThis is the beautiful theatre of Colima, which is located in the heart of the city and was built at the end of the 19th century (from 1871). It is the only centennial building in the state. In 1879, when its construction was not yet completed, the theatre hosted bullfights. Since then, it has been the cultural heart of Colima, where plays, operas, festivals and performances are held throughout the year. Thanks to important renovations, it has recovered its splendor after decades of decay.
PASEO DEL VIEJO OESTE
Read moreIt was originally a movie set built in the middle of a semi-desert landscape, surrounded by rocky mountains, which we like to associate with Hollywood westerns of the 1970s. The first quality feature film to be shot here was Buck and His Partner, starring Sydney Poitiers and Harry Belafonte. This was followed by a dozen or so notable Hollywood productions and then by lesser quality films. Today, it is a sort of entertainment park built around the traditional single street of western villages.
