It was originally a movie set built in the middle of a semi-desert landscape, surrounded by rocky mountains, which we like to associate with Hollywood westerns of the 1970s. The first quality feature film to be shot here was Buck and His Partner, starring Sydney Poitiers and Harry Belafonte. This was followed by a dozen or so notable Hollywood productions and then by lesser quality films. Today, it is a sort of entertainment park built around the traditional single street of western villages.
