MADAGASCAR MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Museums
5/5
1 review

This museum was born in the heights of the city in 2018, within a beautiful traditional house. Inside you will discover films made from digitized old photos (1860/1960), thematic exhibitions of old photos and a space for the discovery of contemporary photographers. Outside, the calm and soothing garden offers a sumptuous view of the city. Also to be discovered: the Museum's Café, an opportunity for a tasty break, in an intimate setting.

MOZEA AKIBA MUSEUM

Museums

Small and simple museum. History of the region, old photographs, presentation of the fauna, the flora and the economy of the Middle West, selection of handicrafts. The paleontology section is interesting with its impressive fossils and dinosaur bones discovered in the Mahajamba valley. The museum is far from everything, so if you go by cab, it is wise to ask the driver to wait. However, the walk back along the cornice gives the opportunity to appreciate the landscape, provided to avoid the hot hours.

MUSÉE LOVAKO

Museums

The Lovako Museum is the latest addition to the Nosy Be region. Created at the initiative of a Frenchman passionate about Malagasy culture, it opened its doors in 2022. In this former summer camp house is located this nice little museum that promotes the culture of Nosy Komba. The pleasant red and white wooden building houses many objects presenting the history of the island's settlement, from the departure of Indonesia to the present day. A short section also questions the place of culture in the contemporary world and in the future! Refreshing!

MARITIME MUSEUM

Museums

Despite the lack of means, this museum offers a good overview of the regional marine fauna. Among the rarities is a coelacanth fished in 1995 in Toliara and perfectly preserved. This specimen is by far the most impressive, but since then a female was also discovered in 1997 (exhibited at the town hall of Fort-Dauphin), two other females in 2001 and a last one with a fetus in 2011. This museum also exhibits multiple specimens of the flora and fauna of the reef, about 760 different species (algae, corals, crustaceans, mammals, fish and reptiles).
