L’OASIS – CHEZ JEAN LE RASTA
Read moreJean le Rasta attracts its share of night owls to its small tropical corner. According to many, the Oasis is one of the best restaurants in the city. Lively atmosphere, a little Rastafari and hippie of course, with reggae music, arranged rums and peace pipes in the background! The restaurant is very cheap and correct. We can also recommend its few rustic bungalows for small budgets: simple but sufficient. In short, a good plan!
LA BUTA STUPA OUTCOOL
Read more"La Buta Stupa Outcool" was originally a cybercafé that was transformed over the years into a real café/snack bar, before being taken over and completely renovated by its Italian owner. It is now always good to gather there with friends to chat at the aperitif time. The atmosphere is now nice, like a bistro, with very appreciated Italian specialities. Concerts, thematic after-works and exhibitions are regularly organized there. A nice evolution for this unusual place!
LA VAHINÉE
Read moreLa Vahinée is an institution for the early evening in Diego-Suarez: the concerts (saxophone, jazz, salegy and even deep into the bush, 50s/60s...) draw crowds who then finish the evening at the nearby Taxi Be. You can eat here all day long, in continuous service, and the menu includes traditional steak frites, grilled fish and beef tongue in hot sauce. Nota Bene: concerts are now held two or three times a week. A good address that mixes tourists and residents.
SNACK BAR LA BANANE
Read moreThere are those who go to St Mary to see the whales, there are others who come there to drink a blow to La Banana. A great friendly greeting to Michel, the "old con de Sainte Marie", who always has fishing! Perfect for playing billiards, relaxing everything (and nothing), drinking a South African white, Pastis… Welcome to the temple of "bonjouir": here we do not take the lead, and that is why we love it. In addition, we can sleep there. What are we complaining about?
LA TAVERNE DES PIRATES
Read moreSince September 2021, this downtown bar-brewery has replaced William Kid's. Vazahas atmosphere, billiards, karaoke, rock concerts and 70/80s parties. It's also a meeting point for watching sports matches over a beer. On the plate: kebabs, crêpes and pizzas. On the premises, you'll find the 501 rental agency (quad, motorcycle and car).
CAFÉ DE L'ALLÉE DES BAOBABS
Read moreThis very pleasant café, planted just in front of the superb alley, is held by the local community, the Bekonazy. 95% of the employees are local, as in the parking lot, the store, or the baobab nursery, a rather rare fact in Mada for a site of this tourist scale! The very pleasant terrace is the ideal place to wait for the sunset: we will come there to refresh ourselves while enjoying the majestic trees. We will drink a very good baobab juice!
TATIE CHRIS'
Read more"Auntie Chris Plage Nosy Be" is the Malagasy address par excellence (on Sundays only)! Everything starts with brochettes, grills... Then the THB gives rhythm to the sunset and gives way to Malagasy sounds, rum and whisky: it moves, it dances and it has fun until about midnight. A reference to Nosy Be! Note: Auntie Chris also has a restaurant in Hell Ville (closed on Sundays and Mondays), where you can taste products from her farm (organic fruits and 100% natural vegetables). A good festive address that we recommend!
DIEGO SUN CITY
Read moreOn the floor, there is a bar with billiards which also makes a restaurant (it is quite good, a pleasant surprise). Pleasant ambience, dancing pub style. Friendly service.
LA TERRASSE DU VOYAGEUR
Read moreThe most beautiful terrace of the city, a way to have a global view on the houses, the streets, the roofs, the vegetation, the passers-by. You can sit down with your computer, have a drink with other travelers, chat, order a chicken coconut Diego style or burgers, home fries, spaghetti bolognese, dishes on the go or more elaborate ... or just a coffee, a cocktail, a beer. Local artists in concert, film screenings, regular and diverse cultural events, part of the proceeds of which are donated to the Kilonga association. We love it!
LA KAZALEA
Read moreA recent restaurant and bar located on Nosy Kely beach, designed in local materials and offering a nice selection of meat, fish and seafood. The atmosphere is particularly warm on the weekend.
NO COMMENT BAR
Read moreThis chic and musical bar is named after the free cultural magazine of the same name. The No Comment welcomes the youth of the capital for lively evenings. In the basement, the concert hall (free) offers a superb acoustic and gives voice to the young Malagasy talents. The atmosphere is rather calm at the beginning of the week, one comes there to enjoy tapas with friends and the impressive collection of whisky, then the track comes alive at the end of the week to celebrate the weekend as it should be, an institution in Madagascar.
CHEZ AURÉLIEN
Read moreEveryone knows. A few tables is all. It is found in the time of mangosteen (mongoose juice) or arranged rum. Very gasy. So we love it!
CLUB DE JAZZ (LA RESIDENCE)
Read moreFor a different evening. You can also eat it in an elegant setting. Good homemade foie foie. Specialties: duck legs, duck magret, or then Malagasy dishes, such as the braised zébu cuissot and its Achards ou, or the bambara pea with its tomato sanitary. The chocolate sweetness is recommended. An original exit and welcome to Tana.
BARS - RUE PRINCIPALE
Read moreLots of evening entertainment on the main street. The atmosphere is peculiar (graying vazahas accompanied by young Malagasy) and families may not feel at ease.
Lively bars: Le Billard, Chez Bibi, the Taxi-Be, an institution for night owls (live music every night, lively atmosphere), and the Safari Bar opposite, run by a very friendly Toulousan. Also, at the entrance to the "tourist village" is the No Comment Beach Bar, right on the beach. Nights end at Djembé, a 5-minute walk from Madirokely, alternating with La Sirène opposite.
LE FRED
Read moreIt is one of the beautiful new panoramic terraces of Tana with a view on the hills and the gradient of houses. It is especially one of the rare bar-restaurants of the city to be open continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: a great opportunity for all the night owls who come to have a snack at the end of the night... or to have a last drink. During the day as well as in the evening, it is a pleasant place to settle down, drink a cocktail, have lunch and dinner. The speciality of the house: burgers, but the menu also offers a selection of dishes based on fresh products.
EL BARCO
Read moreOne of the new bar and restaurants, opening in 2019. We like the atmosphere under the sign of the arts. Colored walls covered with paintings (reproductions of course), a friendly and warm atmosphere, good music (concerts every Thursday evening to discover local artists), a nice restaurant corner arranged on the mezzanine with red and white checkered tablecloths (Burgundian fondues on the menu please!), a small outdoor terrace... In short, one comes there with pleasure to have a drink, to eat a bit or to spend a good moment, quite simply.
