AMFORA
Read moreIn Dubrovnik, you can also escape the crowded streets of the historic city and find some good addresses. To do so, you have to go where the locals live, in the Gruž market district, among other places. Here, at Amfora, the cuisine is rather refined. The chef is just as keen on fish as he is on meat: tuna steak or tartare, black risotto, octopus, lamb, as well as soups and a few vegetarian options. For dessert: rozata, panna cotta or a plate of Croatian cheeses. Impeccable service. A lovely terrace on the other side of the restaurant.

KONOBA NIKOLA
Read moreIf you follow the eastern shore, towards Stobreč, you will find a nice beach (Plaža Stobreč Jug). Next to it, in a suburban area, the tavern is really worth a visit. At the entrance, a staircase leads you to the establishment underneath. One comes here for the excellent cuisine of the fisherman: varied choice of shellfish and fresh fish, seafood brought out of the aquarium during the day. Special mention for the smoked salmon pâté, the red scorpion fish, the swordfish steak, the sea bass with champagne sauce or the scampi in three ways. Impeccable service.
KONOBA TARSA
Read moreThis konoba has really kept the traditional atmosphere of a tavern. We like the two dining rooms with their decorative elements: ironwork, woodwork, stoneware pots on the fireplace shelf, paintings and old photos on the walls. Even the menu is evocative of historical Rijeka. On the menu, all the classics of Croatian cuisine: fish buzara, fuži pasta with white truffle, squid ink risotto, grilled meats, blitva, cooking under peka, house brandy. Only the desserts are not special. Beautiful panoramic terrace.

WINE CORNER
Read moreLocated in an alleyway off the main street, this wine bar is appreciated for its good atmosphere and friendly welcome. The quality of its wines is also an argument in its favor; don't hesitate to ask for advice on regional vintages, such as a good Malvasia. The place remains very popular thanks to its large, full salads, fish and seafood platters and, above all, for its platters of local cheeses and charcuterie. Some say they've diminished in quantity, but they're still generous and fresh.
