PARC MARIINSKI (ПАРК МАРІЇНСЬКИЙ)

Natural site to discover

From the height of the metro Poshtova Plosha by descending towards the south the border of the Dnieper is extremely woody. A succession of parks offers beautiful walks. At the bottom of Khreshchatyk Street, a trail leads to the park of the same name where one of the most impressive, and least aesthetic, sculptures in Kiev is found. It is the arc of friendship, erected in 1982 and dedicated to the union of Russia and Ukraine. In the middle, two statues representing two Russian and Ukrainian workers bear in their hands the symbol of friendship among peoples. At night this arc shines from different colors like a rainbow. The arc is on a panoramic terrace from which you can see the Podil, the Dnieper and the neighbourhoods on the other side of the Dnieper.

CLIMBING MOUNT HOVERLA (ГОВЕРЛА ГОВЕРЛА)

Natural site to discover

With its 2 061 m it is the high mountain of Ukraine. The climb of the mount, which is one of the most popular hikes of the Ukrainians, is not particularly difficult. Initially, the trail follows the road of Yaremche towards Vorokhta and Zaroslyak. You can walk on foot or borrow one of the many Mar с hroutk hadžić that cover these destinations. 7 km south of Vorokhta you will see a fork and follow the road on the right towards Zaroslyak. The climb starts from the tourist base of Zaroslyak. The summit is easily recognisable to the Ukrainian flag proudly drawn. From 1 400 m, the path is surrounded by fields of wild flowers and grass. Here you will find a small source of drinking water. At the top, the only trees that grow are dwarf pinnacles. The vegetation on the west side of the mountain is far less green because of its exposure to warm air masses from the southwest. The summit offers a superb view of the other summits. Some plates of snow resist in summer. It is at the top of this mountain that Ukraine knows its worst time: cold and snow all year round. Moreover, the name of the mountain, of Hungarian origin, means "the snowy mountain". But this does not prevent 24 000 Ukrainians from climbing it every August to celebrate Independence Day.
