Chernivtsi, also known as Chernovtsy, Chernowitz, Cernăuți and Czernowitz, is a Ukrainian city in the Chernivtsi oblast. It is the traditional center of Bucovina. The city is watered by the Prut River and surrounded by hills, forests and fields. Its city center lies around 115 km southeast of Ivano-Frankivsk, 143 km south of Ternopil, 148 km southwest of Khmelnytskyï and 408 km southwest of Kiev.
