Center for National Culture

Arts and crafts

It is simply the biggest handicraft market in Accra. It is possible to find almost everything: paintings, jewelry, furniture, kente, carpets... You will find all the classic goods but also some versions a little more original here and there. The sellers tend to be pushy, and it is certainly difficult to look only; you will have to discuss, negotiate... But it is also a part of the commercial culture of the country!

AFRICAN MARKET

Arts and crafts

At Tetteh Quarshie, go around the traffic circle and head for Accra. A more airy and less oppressive place than the Art Center. It presents crafts from the African continent, especially from Ivory Coast, Mali and Burkina Faso. The prices charged are fixed and high, although it is always possible to obtain discounts by negotiating skillfully. The objects are generally well made. Let us note in passing that it is possible to buy collector's items. In short, a high-flying address.

KANESHIE MARKET

Arts and crafts

It's quite similar to the Makola market in the center, but less frequented by tourists. Here you'll find beautiful products, especially the necklace beads for which Ghanaian handicrafts are renowned. The name "Kaneshie", which means "under the lamps", comes from the time of its inauguration in the 1970s, when Kaneshie was an exclusively night-time market. It should be noted in passing that the floods that hit Accra in 2015 did not spare the market, which was submerged at the time. Activities have since resumed.
