The huts are clean and well maintained with indoor sanitary facilities. Jean, who welcomes you, is a charismatic character of the village. He will take you to meet the fetishist, to visit the forest of cheese trees, by pirogue to Nikine or the island of Egueye to observe the crocodiles and the harvest of mangrove oysters. You will learn a lot with him, especially about the Diola traditions.

In 2006, the young people of Dialacoto opened this camp with the help of the NGO ICD Afrique, to stem the exodus to the city. The GIE structure also works to protect the environment and combat logging. The huts are simple, the outdoor showers decent, but the camp is unfortunately falling into disuse. Renovations were underway at the time of our report. You can, however, stop off for lunch - the food is delicious!

This waterfront camp enjoys a privileged riverside location in a quiet district of Ziguinchor. It's a pleasant place to come for lunch, especially on stifling hot days, when you can enjoy the river breeze and a hearty meal. At the entrance, 16 decent but small rooms are arranged around a tree-lined patio. Ventilated or air-conditioned, with or without TV, they are ideal for the less demanding backpacker, for one or two nights. The staff are friendly, if a little nonchalant.

Right next door to Ambroise's, this rudimentary camp offers five basic rooms with beds and mosquito nets, two of which have indoor bathrooms. For the others, it's an African-style shower, with a bucket of water and out of sight. In the bedrooms, a few books are placed on the shelves to escape before falling asleep. Hammocks invite you to relax by the river. Activities such as fishing and crocodile watching are also available. A place of serenity.

This camp is run by a very warm Franco-Senegalese couple, Valérie and Hyacinthe, who will guide you to the Kalissaye reserve in bivouac or to the surrounding islands to observe birds and crocodiles. Ten banco huts nicely decorated with drawings and wooden objects, with basins in the bathrooms, are part of this eco-friendly camp equipped with dry toilets and solar energy. The cuisine concocted with local products and served around a convivial table is excellent and the small rest areas of the camp are delicious.

Ten rustic but clean huts are placed on the sand, in front of the beach among the trees. The restaurant is a real good idea: on order, you can give in to your fish cravings: fresh monkfish, lobster, thiof, captain, all the catch of the day can be grilled according to your desires. If you are not from the camp, you can have lunch there and enjoy the private beach or the swimming pool, nice no?

The camp is held by Djibril Camara, former president of the guides of Dindéfello, who will be able to make you discover the region and accompany you, among others, to the waterfall. In the middle of the bush, not far from the beach, Sarah and Thomas open the doors of their lush estate, where they cultivate fruit, flowers, medicinal plants and vegetables using permaculture methods. In the heart of this hectare, where it's easy to get lost, are scattered 6 rooms of basic comfort, some of which open onto a rich library and have a private bathroom. They are pleasant, colorful and functional, especially the studio with its fully-equipped kitchen. New rooms, with direct access to the beach, were under construction at the time of our visit. The airy restaurant boasts a lovely ocean view. It serves local and international dishes, as well as grilled meats. A great deal!

Right next to Le Lamantin, also on the river, this rudimentary camp offers three clean rooms with outhouses in a central hut and two separate rooms. Breakfast is simple, with bread, jam and coffee. The menus are copious, offering good value for money. To enjoy the scenery, you can rent a kayak to glide down the river or a pirogue to reach one of the surrounding islands. Other excursions are possible by car to discover the surrounding villages.

Louis and his family offer a simple welcome to this authentic camp with their feet in the sand. The 12 rooms in various shades of blue are basic, with a mosquito-screened bed, shower and toilet. At night, you're lulled to sleep by the lapping of the waves. In the early morning, it's not uncommon for dolphins to liven up breakfasts with their presence in the river. Meals feature the day's catch, often brought in by Louis. Several excursions are available from the camp. For total relaxation!

In the 1970s, the concept of integrated rural tourism emerged in Casamance. On the initiative of young people motivated to develop their villages, several camps were set up, respecting traditional architecture and involving local people in management and animation. Located a little further east of Simenti, in Bafoulabe, on the banks of the river. The site has been taken over by the G.I.E. des Guides du Niokolo Koba and is managed by Abdoulaye Kante, a tourist guide. The camp is gradually being renovated and now boasts solar power. The ventilated huts, built from local materials, are simple and equipped with mosquito nets. You're in the perfect place to observe the animals and, if you're lucky, maybe the lions. On the roadside, the Bassari motel, formerly known as Khoudia, is now part of the Horizons Bleus chain. It has traditional air-conditioned huts in the backyard. They are simple, clean, without much charm, but can be a good stopover for a night. The establishment has been enlarged by a dozen fully equipped rooms. There is no restaurant on site, but you can start the day with a good breakfast. The staff is pleasant and will make sure that your stay goes smoothly.

Superb upstairs hut that's worth the trip, if only for the glance. Simple and clean rooms, lit with kerosene lamps. If you come by bush taxi, the driver can take you there. Restaurant where Senegalese meals are eaten in a circle under a large straw hut. Several activities are proposed: visit of a small artisanal village, bike rentals and walks in the forest. The orchard gives a lot of citrus fruits during the season.

The impluvium hut is built on a clay foundation (as opposed to the banco that dominates elsewhere), thanks to the local soil. Here's a rudimentary camp, with its feet in the water, for a complete break from everyday life. Conakry Bassène built this camp with his own hands, comprising 6 rooms in an impluvium hut and 6 rooms on stilts, with outdoor showers. Comfort is basic, but the experience is authentic. Fresh fish, oysters, shrimps, chicken and even duck. Numerous excursions into the bolongs, including crocodile watching and fishing for various species of fish.

In the heart of the desert, this ecolodge blends perfectly with the surrounding dune landscapes. Thirty-four Mauritanian tents are placed on the golden sand of the desert. They are spacious and well equipped. It is best not to arrive too late if you want to slide on the sand, ride a camel or go for a quad ride. The bar-restaurant offers a superb view of the dunes. We enjoy having a drink with our feet in the sand, dancing to the rhythm of the tam-tams, tasting hearty meals and laughing around the fire. It's magical!

One of the only village camps in the area. It reopened in 2014 and the profits are invested in the village, such as in the construction of classrooms or the renovation of the dispensary. While taking part in a good deed, one appreciates this simple and warm camp. On the edge of one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, the ten ventilated huts are scattered over a wooded area. They offer minimal comfort, with cold water shower, bed and mosquito net. Summary, but well maintained. A good address for small budgets!

At the entrance to the village, here's another pleasant place to get away from it all in a peaceful, authentic setting. Clara, a friendly Senegalese woman, and Gilbert, a Normandy sea dog, welcome you with open arms. Rooms are simple and spacious, with indoor bathrooms. During the day, you can relax in the hammocks or take a trip to the surrounding islands. Clara, a good cook, also prepares tasty dishes using local produce. You can also pitch your tent for a close-to-nature experience.

Opened in 2001, this campsite would require a more regular cosmetic.

Campement de l'Île d'Egueye is an ecolodge located in the mangrove swamps of Basse Casamance, Senegal. The island is uninhabited, making it ideal for travelers in search of tranquility and unspoiled nature. Accessible by pirogue from the small village of Diakène Ouoloff, the camp offers accommodation in traditional huts, as well as a restaurant and bar equipped with wifi. Visitors can take advantage of the unique mangrove environment, one of the best preserved in the region, with pirogue rides, rice paddy walks, kayaking and mountain biking.
