Woodcarvers, dressmakers, jewellers, manufacturers of recycled objects, weaving ... You can visit Mouhamed Bèye, a very warm craftsman who makes beautiful jewelry in ebony and teak. It is a pity that one feels oppressed at the entrance by a large part of the craftsmen who encourage people to buy, a practice due in large part to the lack of tourists in this area.

Read moreHoused in the former 19th-century Senegalese courier service, this beautiful gallery offers exhibitions and sales of paintings, jewelry, sculptures, beads, clothing and hand-woven fabrics. St-Louis designer Mame Madeleine Niang exhibits her collections alongside the creations of young painters, sculptors and innovative craftsmen. Since 2014, she has initiated Saint-Louis Fashion Week, a fashion event organized during the jazz festival. She also rents out basic, decent rooms.

Read moreDuring your journey on the Petite Côte, you will surely have noticed wooden or stone sculptures, sand paintings, fixed under glass or colored batiks. Here you are at the place of creation of all these works of art. Sculptors, shoemakers and jewelers, more than 50 artisans work here, in a well organized place where each has its numbered box. The vast majority of works designed here are wood sculptures: The Laobé are indeed renowned for their work of wood. Don't miss Matar Dioum's workshop in box No. 66 (++221 77 631 96 64) and its imposing and dismountable sculptures in case you want to bring one. You can also watch the careful manufacture of the djembés where sculptors, ferrelsewhere and assemblers work together. LES TROUVAILLES DE DIARRA
Read moreOlivia, whose Senegalese name is Diarra, settled in Ngaparou with her Senegalese husband Thierno, after living in Canada for ten years. Wishing to promote local crafts, she created her website where she presents her favorites: clothes, facials, jewelry and decorative objects. The prices are fair, hardly more expensive than in the craftsmen. With her husband, they have also launched Covoyagement, a collaborative website for parcel transfer and accompaniment.
L'ATELIER DES FEMMES
Read moreEstablished for nearly 20 years in Saint-Louis, the association La Liane brings a precious help to street children and isolated women in difficulty. It is to offer a second life to these women that the association has set up this workshop-boutique. Women from Saint-Louis and surrounding villages are trained in crochet and sewing, and then sell their creations on the spot, which generates an income for them. You will find original items made from recycled materials, such as cushion covers made from fabric scraps. To discover!

It is in the garden of her workshop that Senegalese weavers reproduce her designs on a traditional loom. Lampshades, cushions, bags, curtains or even loincloths, these works of art surprise by the traditional techniques used, embellished with a more contemporary personal touch.

VILLAGE ARTISANAL DE SOUMBÉDIOUNE
Read moreCreated in 1961, this village is a good place to get an idea of what the country's craftsmen produce. Grouped by professional category, the artisans exhibit a wide range of sculpted works. You'll also find all types of leather goods (cow, snake, goat, crocodile) and jewelry. Unfortunately, the place has become very touristy, and prices are often unreasonable. Bargaining is the order of the day, as is harassment from the touts.
CHEZ ZORRO L'ANTIQUAIRE
Read moreKnown as Zorro, in reference to the famous character he has admired since his youth, Abdoulaye Sow is an outstanding collector who regularly travels throughout West Africa in search of rare and singular objects such as masks, fetishes, jewellery and statuettes. In his well-stocked art gallery, each object has a story to tell about African culture, and one could stay there for hours listening to Zorro tell us about them. In the summer, he closes shop for a while to exhibit or rest in France.
